This is the third track from Deep Purple's sixth album, Machine Head (1972).

Lineup (Mk II) - Ritchie Blackmore: guitar, Ian Gillan: vocals and harmonica, Roger Glover: bass, John Lord: keyboards, and Ian Paice: drums/percussion

Lyrics:
Somebody's shouting
Up at a mountain
Only my own words return
Nobody's up there
It's a deception
When will I ever learn?

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And whispering pictures of home

Wondering blindly
How can they find me
Maybe they don't even know
My body is shaking
Anticipating
The call of the black hooded crow...

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And taunting with pictures of home

Here in this prison
Of my own making
Year after day I have grown
Into a hero
But there's no worship
Where have they hidden my throne?...

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And screaming out pictures of home

Was listening to this album at the age of 14, and I'm still listening to this album at the age of 62.

There is not a bad 1/4 note on this album. Every arrangement, every performance, every nuance, every 1/4 note ... perfection.
Absolutely one of the best albums of all time.

The musicianship is this band was literally breathtaking. That solo by Ritchie is still my favorite rock solo to this day.

Bought this album after hearing Highway Star on T.V. The whole album blew me away at 14, now 65 and still pull their albums off the shelf to listen again. Volume 11

This song is one long hook city. Doesn't get better than that. Twists and turns, chugging along like a juggernaut -- every member gets a chance to tear it up on full blast. My absolute favorite since i was a kid.
