The Dakar Rally is without a doubt one of the toughest motorsport events in the world, so can i mange to survive it in Dakar Desert Rally ? The first part of that challenge though is to not get myself hopelessly lost.

The compass comes up near Time Control waypoints. This is true irl, as well. When you're within 1 or 2 km of a CP (varies depending on CP), the tulip will come up, besides that you're relying on roadbook instructions and landmarks

I think 'SXS' is for 'Side-by-side'. Similar to a big quad, but bigger again and your passenger sits beside you, so side-by-side ATV, shortened to Side X Side (like 4 *X* 4), also know in some places as a UTV.

I’ve been playing Dakar Desert Rally for a couple of weeks now, loving every minute of it. There is also PLENTY of failrace episode content just from the downright suicidal AI.. with the trucks, they just torpedo you for the hell of it - especially at corners. Often fall over on bumpy turns all by themselves, and are generally a bit dim. Hilarious and infuriating at the same time!

I play the original Dakar18 game, and here's what I'll say, the Terrain is a lot more punishing the Desert Rally, but Navigation is a whole hell of a lot harder in Dakar18. the maps were so expansive you were actually driving 100's of kilometers at a time and it was very easy to get lost. also throw in the occasional phesh phesh or mud pit, and it was a VERY difficult game to complete. I've been playing it since 2019 and I have never completed the Dakar Rally in that game (though I hae completed the other two Rallies, the Inca Trail and Ruta 40). I've tried Trucks, Cars, Bikes, SXS's, quads, everything. the farthest I ever got was stage 8/15. and on that occasion, I took a turn too fast in a low visibility storm and binned the tuck into a ravine. and no, I don't like reset-ing to the last waypoint. Coming by other vehicles was a rare occurrence, especially after about stage 3 (the first "mega long" stage). overall, though, I'm liking what I'm seeing. there's better vehicle selection, it feels a little tamer than the original, and the graphics looks great. once i have some spare cash, I'll be sure to pick it up.

I had Dakar 2 on the PS2, while this has come a long way in graphics and the roadbook is nice the physics look just as arcade-like.

Not the usual British person racing a Praga in bad weather content I'm used to but I like it! Pretty stoked to get into this game, maybe it'll open the door for more multi class off-road racers - next gen Motorstorm would be sick
