Your passion for War and peace has convinced me to put it on my TBR. I've been wanting to read it for decades 🤪

I absolutely loved Dracula! And I did not expect to do so, but it was just the perfect vibe and I basically couldn't put it down. If we were villains was a disappointment though. The "plot twist" really isn't a plot twist and I think the story dragged on for ever. The Shakespeare references were quite nice and you don't need to "speak" Shakespeare to understand it. I can see why people like it, but I basically guessed what happened and then I was just waiting for it to be revealed.

❤️🍁📚❤️...I'm half way through The Secret History and loving it!! It is taking me longer to read, but so worth it!

The fact that I discovered your channel from your comment on my video, and see the exact same book cart, same edition of War and Peace, and so many more books we have in common.. cannot be more exciting... 🤯😍

I'm with you on reading War and Peace (first for me) and The Phantom (reread). I prefer Frankenstein to Dracula. Didn't care for The Turn of the Screw. I have the Radcliffe you mentioned so maybe I'll throw that in the mix

Oh go for The Secret History, even if you hated The Goldfinch. I The Goldfinch, and The Secret History is one of my fav books ever. Also, read it before reading If We Were Villains, because it was written before, it's kind of an OG Dark Academia, and there are some similarities. I loved both of those books, absolutely, but I think it's better to read The Secret History first :)
Anyways, a great TBR, have fun!

Okay so now I definitely need to read War and Peace! I bought it years ago on a book buying binge and have frankly been too intimidated by it to pick it up! Now I think I will!

Omg those Edgar Allen Poe books that your husband bought you are STUNNING. I love the blackness of them. Reading them in November is a phenomenal idea and I think I'll do it too now 😂

08:40 omg whaaaat A Crooked Tree sounds super spooky!

Too late we are to get our angelhood.
It makes me think our humanhood's enough.
No sunbeam sword our shoulders ever took,
though goosebumps claim one singed our feathers off.
We skid into the Roman theatron,
and see it’s empty as we catch our breaths.
The angels meant to knight us all are gone
where limestone seats aren’t finished cooling yet.
Why not stampede this empty stadium?
with open arms the wings we’re born to use.
Our faces feel the sunset’s radiance;
a grounded species Earth’s afraid to lose.
Too late to rituals, we lived instead,
and find the proof of angels in our friends.

I haven’t read a lot of books this summer but I’m sort of recovering at the end, I just couldn’t make myself read anything I didn’t have to read for school because I read 3/4 of Crime and Punishment and I was so frustrated that I wasn’t getting it in the way I wanted to because I didn’t have the background on the philosophy of the novel so I shelved it to reread later it was just extremely uncomfortable to read for me. I didn’t start this summer very strong but I’ve had a very big streak of just feeling like reading again and so far I’ve read As I Lay Dying, Silas Marner and Mrs. Dalloway. Right now I’m reading The Sound and The Fury and LOVING it so much and after that I don’t know what I want to read. I’m definitely reading Jane Eyre in October though.

Somehow in my mind also I have these novels linked and think of them as a Western Trifecta of Horror: Frankenstein, Dracula, and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

I've yet to read Dracula! But I've watched the Keanu Reeves-Winona Ryder 10x heheh I love the whole aesthetic of that movie

I've read both A Dowry of Blood and Slade House, so no spoilers I promise! Like you, I'm not terribly fond of vampires either but Dowry was fantastic. And Slade House was a trip and I also enjoyed it immensely. Happy reading and let us all know what you thought of all the books!
