Configurations in SolidWorks

This video demonstrates how to model a Lego, prepare the model by using Equations to drive the geometry, and how to create multiple configurations. Also, I show how to use Linear Pattern and Shell.

using the excel table is more convenient. I have made a model of car key with around 4k configurations. thanks to solidworks for this feature. it saved a huge time of mine.

I used this for a SolidWorks class I was taking. It really made things easy. The only thing I changed is instead of centering the posts on the top, I dimensioned them off the side so I could do a two-post-wide configuration.

Nice intro to configurations. Configurations can bring a step increase in efficiency once people start using them.

Great video! when I was making a new configuration, I forgot to change the dimension for a length in my part to "this configuration". That would explain why the length would change for all configurations, even though they weren't derived configurations! Thanks!

Thanks, man, that helped allot....I was doing the same thing Andrew was. I do prefer working out the formulas as global variables, ahead of time, over changing the dimensions directly, but I can see how this would come in real handy when altering models that have already been built.
