Do Mormons Celebrate Easter? | 3 Mormons

Ian says that Easter is perhaps the biggest holiday celebrated by Mormons. Ian talks about this important subject with his wife Sienna and his friend Elisabeth.

First, Sienna brings up Mormons and Holy Week. Elisabeth says that growing up, her mom made sure to emphasize each day of Holy Week in preparation for Easter. The 3 Mormons then go through the different days of Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday. Jesus Christ came back to Jerusalem on a donkey. On Monday, Jesus Christ cleansed the temple and taught of the sacredness of the temple. Then on Maundy Thursday, the Passover occurs. Christ teaches his disciples at the Last Supper. Then Peter, James and John follow Christ to the Garden of Gethsemane where he suffers for all of the children of God. Jesus suffered because he loves us. After Jesus died, he was placed in a tomb. Finally, Jesus Christ is resurrected.

Mormons don’t use the cross as the symbol of faith but rather, they focus on the life and power of the Savior in overcoming death.

i went to catholic school and we learn about holly week, and I used to go to the church, and after I lived in Idaho for 10 months I realised that it was so much diferent! Even tho I am not a mormon and I don't think I will ever be, I like how you guys live your faith, it is awesome!!

Why do you believe the atonement happened in the garden? I think it was in Mark mentions sweating "like" great drops of blood but none of the other gospel accounts mentioned it. Nothing in the scriptures makes me think anything but Jesus praying to the Father occurred. Please give me sripture references. Thanks.

Without the Cross there would be no resurrection Galatians 6: 14 Paul says "But far be it from me to boast except for the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. " Jesus did not pay sins penalty in the Garden of Gethsemane. The sacrifice of a perfect Lamb, was required to pay our debt. Jesus endured the Cross for the joy that was set before Him the accomplishment of the Father's will. He is risen!

Easter come from the word "Eostre" Who is the pagan goddess of spring, that why easter is about eggs bunnies flowers and all the new beginnings of spring. The church told the pagan that if they joined the church and gave up paganism, they could carry on celebrating if they didnt they would be killed. thousands of pagans died but those who joined found that the church soon changed celebrations from the Eostre celebrations and winter solstice to christmas and easter. what does a tree have to do with jesus ? It is brought inside to keep some of nature alive and decorated brightly to trick the sun god into thinking that he is late for spring and the flowers have started to bloom as winter was a harsh time where many died. So many celebrations have nothing to do with jesus or god, but as you dont know when jesus died i suppose easter is a good enough time to celebrate it x

Easter is pagan holiday. It comes from the pagan celebration of of the Roman Greek goddess “Ishtar”.

I appreciate the video explaining Easter but I have never seen any Mormons celebrate Easter like Christians. Christians go through rituals all week in prep for the Resurrection. We prepare the whole season of Lent in anticipation for the climax of Easter. Mormons only go to church on Easter.

I also do not understand why Mormons place most of the emphasis on the suffering in the garden rather than the actual death on the cross. Dying on the cross was for our salvation. Without Jesus' death the suffering would have been pointless. Death and resurrection made it possible for us to have everlasting life. It also proves that Jesus IS God because only God could die and be resurrected. Jesus is fully God AND fully human.
