Traffic will increase exponentially once the NMIA is operational. It will be insufficient once the airport is at full capacity.
Such projects are made for a life of 100yrs.

I like how the media even after existing for decades in india and knowing everthing still tries to put up reports like these when it comes to infra projects.
Its evident these alternate fast/short routes will be less used in their early years. But after 5-7 yrs they will be packed like Mumbai Pune Expy.

We can't judge the bridge standalone, as it's a part of a much larger holistic transportation framework. While it's true that it hasn't reached up to true potential, the main reason is the incompleteness of connectors in Navi Mymbai side.
MTHL will definitely overwhelm its capacity once Navi Mumbai Airport, Delhi- Mumbai expressway, Samriddhi Mahamarg, will be fully operational and interconnected.

This report is incomplete and hardly qualifies as an analysis. Did the original estimation of 56, 000 vehicles daily include traffic from the Navi Mumbai airport, Pune expressway, and the Shirdi-Worli elevated corridor? If yes, the current traffic load cannot be deemed a shortfall. If not, then the pricing is WRONG. With 22, 000 vehicles daily at Rs 250, the revenue is only 55 lakhs or 180 crores yearly. Now, at Rs 125, if they had to achieve the original target of 56, 000, then the daily turnover would have been 70 lakhs or about 250 crores a year.

They need to connect Mumbai Pune Expressway to it. Traffic will increase substantially.

They should have built a rail network as well on that bridge

To my understanding - traffic flow will gradually pick up over the course of years as and when more properties, offices etc are build and moved around Sweri. Expecting immediate increase in traffic is, probably, bit short sighted. I am sure - the planners would have constructed this bridge keeping in mind that traffic flow, business moving to that side of city would be gradual.

I am pretty sure that this infra would prove to be good in coming years and more population would gradually shift towards other side.

This bridge was built keeping in mind the builders' lobby that wanted prices on the mainland to appreciate.

Indian’s need all round development and increase in infrastructure everywhere …

Yet, paying toll becomes a huge issue for people with cars and luxury cars !!

Increase the toll to ₹500 with immediate effect .

They made a huge mistake by not having bi-directional rail lines. This would have added to the cost but would have been used. Another reason that it is not being used is that build out has to take place. They should built sports facilities and theme parks on the other side.

when navi mumbai airport becomes fully operation, then daily traffic can be expected. If tourism can be extended here that will also bring expected traffic. Suggest open bus top tours on this bridge.

Infrastructure has to be built keeping the needs of at least the next 10 to 15 years, and not for meeting today's needs. That is what the Chinese do because their focus is to meet the needs of high economic growth.

For example, in Hyderabad, the 8-lane ring road has been built keeping future needs and high-speed travel in mind. In the initial years after opening, there was little traffic. Ease of travel is facilitating the rapid expansion of the city in many directions.

I am surprised that the Print is making an issue out of something desirable.

One reason is its from Sewri 😅 rather trying to build it somewhere near Ghatkopar and Thane would help

Who knows? Could be earlier calculation by engineers (50, 000 vehicles per day) wrong..

What is the traffic on the Bandra-Worli sealink? I had read that even that was very low.
