The Difference Between IT and Software Engineering

Amazingly even many universities or people ostensibly hired to lead these departments have little working knowledge of either field can cannot identify one from the other even though they require different skills, tools, aptitude, and training!

I appreciate that you took the time to publish this video and elaborate on the main difference between IT and Software Engineering. Looks like IT is the ticket for me. Thanks!

Good concise definition of the two. They are definitely confusing because you can code scripts and programs in IT, but it is done for the business you work for. It is not an end product that is sold to anyone outside.

Concise viewpoint. I majored BCompSc (so I mostly focused on SW development & some theories during my bachelor's: C/C++, Java, Javascript, Node.js, RDBMSes, | linear algebra for Graphics, Vision .. Statistics, DL: decision tree, naive Bayes, k-means clustering etc. etc., However currently working as an IT system engineer (not yet been 1 year). Before coming into my job, I vaguely thought: 'Oh, there might be some opportunity to build some modules?' but the reality was different(This doesn't mean that I don't like current tasks from my job)..

In a non-IT company which I'm currently working in, IT itself focuses on delivering IT infrastructure to the employees in a stable manner: Servers, network, system administration, etc. etc. Anyway, I find some enjoyable parts like Network, ITSM, System administration, etc. etc. thingy coz it wasn't able to handle while studying in university.

I think I blabbered a lot. Anyway enjoyed your video 🙂

Good day!

Although not in either field, I go eye-rolling when I hear people from social science or humanities assume that they are the same and even worse look down on them for reason that I can't figure, and they tend to think that it's childish that adult guys play games yet they don't know the advanced physics and computational algorithms behind the physics engine and the games themselves, thank you for your video, it does at least make our lives taste like a bitter candy than a sour lemon

SAM!!! Good to see you Brother! Spiceworks was never the same after you left...

Ahahaha! As a Computer Engineering major, there is most certainly a vast difference. I chose my field because I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to deal with customers on a day to day basis. It was a natural progression from my younger years as a line cook, where my kitchen crew, just like my tech crew, have always been thick as thieves.

I.T is mechanics of the computer world.
Software Engineer is the designer.

I would say a Software Engineer doesn't always deliver software or even do programming, but a Software Developer does. And a Software Engineer may be delivering plans or strategies for software migration and upgrades for software and information systems and may occasionally get into the hardware details. But, they will not be doing any of the work to deploy that hardware, support and maintain that hardware. The IT engineer will be doing that. But, somebody could be both a Software Engineer and an IT Engineer.

I.T is just an admin task, its just the modern Ledger.

By coincidence, Computers are used everywhere and IT guys are best apt at handling them.
So automation, troubleshooting and infrastructure became an accidental part of IT

The main crux of IT is the storage and security of Business Data. That’s literally it. This is how the ledgers of old businesses worked too.

The hardware maintenance, automation scripting, q&a work, webapp hosting are all peripheral objectives that arise from fhe coincidence everyone uses computers but the IT guys happen to be the best at computers.
