I am a high school teacher and we see this many times throughout the decades. When a student has great talent they rise above the rest and know they have a bright future. Naturally, other students resent this great talent and as a defense mechanism start to displace their own angst, anger, and inferiority on that talented person. We see it in sports, music, singing, acting and other areas. Sometimes, the other students will hate the student so much that s/he must be removed from the student population for their own safety. I have seen it. It is not a pretty thing to observe.

You know, I do believe this and I don’t think it’s mean. Taylor has said multiple times that she was not popular in high school, in fact got bullied and lost friends over her singing. And yes it’s also very Taylor to invite the class to the CMAs - because Taylor doesn’t forget and she wants to make sure people know she doesn’t forget, but does it with kindness. So yes inviting the class probably was a power play by Taylor, I wouldn’t call it “petty”, but yes I think it could be a sort of revenge with kindness.
