It's similar to Volkswagen because it's under SAIC Group, which has a JV with Volkswagen in China as well.

You are too kind with your words on this MG5. Amazingly handsome car but it won't sell because people expect a lot more from Chinese car companies. This car unfortunately is under specced from a "Chinese" perspective.

This car company kept mum about the zero ANCAP rating and did not come out to clarify with the Malaysian audience, which created a lot of suspicion. Why should we do our own investigation. Its their job to come out and say "hey this is made in Thailand and it adheres to whatever standard, etc etc". Since they don't even bother to do that, it reflects poorly on their company and consumers will not have the confidence to buy their vehicles.

Ever stricter safety tests can only be a good thing for consumers. Remove any autonomous safety system from the equation & the occupant protection score is still below average according to the ANCAP report. MG knows how to make safe cars as the MG3 & MG HS scored much higher in occupant protection, so not sure what's with the MG5. Either way, the reputation damage is done.

The MG5 still a decent buy at 80k or less, but not 90k.

theres a turbo version with 180hp and dct sold in some markets..MG should of brought it here..seems the zero star models didnt come with pre tensioners and the Malaysia market has it, , not sure whether that would add anymore stars lol..its a handsome well spec car for its price..should make toyota and honda respond more positively when they have competition..my expectations is that MG will throw the prices even lower to get market share..

One of the things I like about Bobby's driving review is the camera angle. Almost every other car reviewer points the camera angle at their face 😒 Probably to avoid showing them breaking the speed limit lol.
