"How did I not film that story?" -Tom Scott. Everyone watching: We know you're retired but... No one would be upset if a new unexpected video popped up one day.

The rare Tom “How have I not filmed this before”

Tom was not passing through Yakima. He did not realize at the time, but he was standing still while the town moved around him.

I feel like Taha gave this away too quickly, I would have strung them along like "Yes the store moved, but not on a river." and drawn it out as long as possible 😆

"Hills. That's all I remember from Yakima"

Yeah, that makes sense.

And yes, Yakima is on a river - the Yakima River, which isn't huge, and feeds into the Columbia River later, but would have been big enough for a floating home/store. So that wasn't a ridiculous idea.

My first idea was that he sold his old home and purchased a new one, that was half a mile closer.

Also, there WERE mobile shops, both water and rail-borne, in that region in 1885. (aside from the general Yakima-ness of the shop in particular)

Lifelong Washingtonian here, can confirm hills are the most memorable thing about Yakima.

So Patrick Star's idea to "take Bikini Bottom and push it somewhere else" is grounded in reality after all.

Excellent pronunciation by Taha of Yakima. Not perfect, but closer than most people who aren't from the area!

I have a copy of XKCD's book on how to do things. One of them included moving houses. And i mean physically picking them up and carrying them elsewhere. And then anchoring them down into the crust. Weirdly appropriate. (Citation needed)

3:00 When you need supplies for writing a letter, you need to find a stationary store. Perhaps it is a mobile stationary store.

"I've been to Yakima" has Finland vibes all over it.

We also have moving shops in the UK. They might be canal boats, or ice cream boats. The classic one is the touring library lorry

i love when the question is a trojan horse for something even weirder surrounding it

My first idea was that the "store" was a real estate seller and the farmer bought a new home that was closer.

I guessed the store was moving.
But I had another idea. He teathered the horse to something that moved, and he had to chase the horse for half a mile to get it back!
Another idea was taking a longer route there to avoid a one-way toll road.

My brain instantly went to the boat shop guy from The Phantom Hourglass
