Very well said. You definitely can self-teach and learn just about anything on the internet with the right drive and passion. If one's path is via school, so be it. If an alternate path is completely non-traditional, then so be that as well. Let passion be your guiding light.

As a generalist myself, I fully endorse everything in this video!!!! For everyone watching, listen closely to what this man is saying. I wish I had a video like this when I got started back in 2006. Thank you for making this video! I started my channel for the same reasons as you. It's great to see others sharing. Keep it up!!!

You are truly a special person, i at first thought i was to become an Attorney, but i hated my job, clients, some of my colleagues. The reality is what you said at the end of the video, ‘do something that inspires you’. After loosing both of my parents and one of my cats in the two years i hope that i will soon be able to start to recreate in VFX just like you. I just first have to finish the painful process of finishing/closing my parents estate. I never thought that this would take almost every bit of energy out of me. But yes my future will look bright, for the first time it is only up to me what i create and of course in the process of as this gets more intense, i will be able to support my cats and of course myself. Every time then i see your big office with all the computers, but no people yet bc of covid 19, i hope that i will in some time come to a similar stage there i will not work out of my apartment/ home office anymore, but out of an professional environment. And just like you i love SciFi, especially spaceships, Dark Matter was actually my most recent favorite sci-fi show and the CG & VFX effects of it were out of this world. But i guess we all need goals/dreams to challenge us to work even harder and of course to create more awesome/ real looking things, no matter what it is. I hope that my few words of wisdom will maybe inspire more of you to follow your heart and do what is your dream, not just a monthly paycheck, its hard to believe but that is as close to being death as you can be while still being alive. Like Andrey said lets get to our computers and create something, even if that means that you have to change your favorite Laptop/PC and use one better suited for VFX. Its just part of the Journey.

The first video I watched of yours was “How to create HDRI maps”. It was a random search online because I really wanted to create my own maps. But, deep down inside I just have a burning passion for learning how things work, I feel honestly that doing so give the knowledge it takes to produce intentional master pieces.
I completely agree with your approach with learning. Because of your positivity I’ve started learning Nuke. I have 7 years experience using C4D, but I’ve always wanted to make the jump to compositing and FX. Currently working as a creative director and marketing director doesn’t leave me much time to peruse my passions. But you give me hope!

I started at school with Modo, then I studied C4D and Zbrush as a self taught and took 6months to achieve a decente level.
It took several weeks just for a single project.
Just never give up, everything takes suck an incredible amount of effort and time.
Keep in mind, in your demo reel, put just the 3 best project you did. And it shouldn’t be last more than 1min, 30 sec it’s better.

In 2019, when I got introduced to cinema 4D, I stumbled on this video and laughed at the fact that when I get a motion design job, I won't get that passionate about client work and that I would still need to create my own work. Back then, the idea of getting paid for animating something was a dream, let alone getting burned out from it. Fast forward 5 years to 2024, and I was feeling like shit sucked in the trenches of never-ending work. To my surprise, I couldn't get "passionate" about the paid work; it started becoming choirs. And thank the gods or the universe, an echo of Andrey's voice appeared in my head: "Never stop creating." Thank you so much, Andrey; this video might have just saved me.

I have been learning 3D recently. My aim is to animate my own model and do vfx. What you said are entirely true as a generalist. Learning curve is very slow at firsf, but i am able to solve a lot problems with my own, which reward me satisfaction.

the most valuable part of this video was the journey explaining how you went from starting to being a professional, good advice for new users
