Now that everyone has seen the Watches and Wonders 2023 videos, it’s time to look at the 3 watch collection, since we all need to prep ourselves for buying those watches.

Here is my 3 watch collection. I tend to like the icons. First is the Patek Philippe Calatrava, the brands first wrist watch and perhaps the icon of their collection despite the popularity of steel sports models in recent years. Mine if the 5196J in yellow gold. It’s aesthetic has been perfected over the decades and even though it looks simple every detail is painstakingly refined from the simple yet elegant dial to the slimness of the case to the perfect symmetry of the overall watch.

Next is the IWC Le Petit Prince. This is a watch that is another icon of the IWC line. Whether you pick the Big Pilot or the Mark series, pilots watches define IWC. I do find myself reaching for this watch over the Tudor Black Bay 58 925 every time and that’s the reason I recently sold my Tudor. The sunburst dial, legibility and lume all make this the perfect daily driver for me. IWC is always the underdog when it comes to luxury watches with Omega, Rolex and Tudor grabbing the headlines but I love rooting for the underdog and IWC is the Jaguar motor cars of watches while the others are more akin to Audi, BMW and Mercedes but who doesn’t actually root for Jag?

My beater watch is the Casio Duro. This is a do anything beater watch that can go on a dive or on a hike. It’s rugged and easy to read. A g-shock in all but name and without the price premium. This watch takes over from my former tool watch, the Tudor Pelagos, a watch I sold at the height of the watch price bubble.
