Where is the 'Indie Smash Bros' we deserve? (Indie Platform Fighter games)

For years now I've wanted nothing more than a Smash Bros-like game, bursting with awesome indie game characters! In a wide, varied history of indie party fighter games, we've never really had something that hits that particular mark.
Could the upcoming Bounty Battle be what we've been waiting for?

"Bounty Battle is the ultimate indie fighting game: a new multiplayer 2D fighter, where you can pit your favourite indie heroes against one another! Indie heroes from games like Guacamelee! and Darkest Dungeon, to Dead Cells, Owlboy & more battle it out in this fighter frenzy."

It's looking less and less likely that Bounty Battle will be the game we were hoping for. But the recently announced Fraymakers from the creator of Super Smash Flash might just be what we wanted all along!

Hopefully Fraymakers is able to be the indie smash we deserve, it’s looking amazing.

Slap city characters are actually all technically "guest characters" from within the "Ludoverse". Ittle Dew, Space Hunks, Princess Remedy, Iji, Hyper Princess Pitch and Card City Nights are all the games the characters are from as far as I know.

A great video though, there are so many platform fighters I'd never heard of mentioned in this video!

I think these types of games are called platform fighters.

Tbh, RoA and Fraymakers are my go-tos not only because they are impeccable indie platform fighters, but because they allow for custom content. Base RoA is fun as hell and base Fray looks like the perfect indie plat fighter, but I love them because the devs allowed the playerbase to add their own content in. I've dabbled in RoA mods, and plan to make loads of Fray content, and that is what excites me to no end. Custom content and mods have meant so much to me, and I'm excited to see where Fray is taken...

I'm surprised the term "platform fighter" hasn't popped up in your research.

I think we're getting the indie Smash game that we needed with Fraymakers.

It's looking pretty good too.

Too top it off it's from the Company behind super Smash flash 2. That one nintendo fan game that isn't shut down by nintendo and hopefully it stays that way.

I´m so mad at the devs of this game. I mean, this was a golden opportunity to make it shine. The roster is so cool, so many awesome indie characters brought together. And it doesn´t even look that bad. But the gameplay is so lackluster that I don´t even want to try it.

When you were talking about Indie Game Battle I was confuse seeing characters like Blue Blob, Matt, and Starter. Then the studio logo appeared and it was confirmed: someone I know made that game. I recognized them because they now, along with making actual games, are making Rivals of Aether mods, and he has made/is making those three characters as mods! Nice to see Felix’s past

I think the Indie Smash Bros experience already exists in the Rivals of Aether Workshop. Kinda surprised you didnt bring it up in the video. In any case, it was still an entertaining watch.

They're platform fighters. Generally looked down upon by the fighting game community due to their accessibility. However they also have a greater emphasis on movement in comparison to traditional fighters.

i'd love to see your opinions on Fraymakers, and I'm sure others have already said this but the genre name you're looking for is "platform fighter" :) keep up the good work!

edit: as soon as i commented this i remembered you already have a fraymakers video

Rumble Arena is a platform fighter that focuses on different mythologies.

Currently it doesn't look impressive, but it has it's own set of unique mechanics which make it interesting to play.

I'd say Rumble Arena is actually the 1st truly solid Platform Fighter on mobile devices.

Indie character roster. Shovel knight (obviously). Plague knight (maybe). Hollow knight. Gunineer (the costume will be all the gunineers and all costumes will have different with guns and abilities). Lilac (plays as a better sonic). Meat boy (alter costumes will be bandage girl). Ori. Rival of aether rep. Henry stickmin (the among us crewmate will follow henry around and some times be an imposter when being close to it, also customizable). Goose (will be annoying af). Shantae. Quote (curly brace act like a alt with a slight difference). Zangetsu or miriam Frisk. Papyrus and sans (papyrus will act as main fighter while sans will be in the background only fighting if papyrus dies. Brawlfan1 actually did a great job for frisk and papyrus & sans). Isaac (maybe a bit censored depending on the rating). Madeline and badeline. Yooka laylee

My idea for an "Indie Smash Bros/Platform Fighter" would feature these characters:

Base roster
Gunvolt (Azure Striker Gunvolt)
Dust (Dust: An Elysian Tale)
Sash Lilac (Freedom Planet)
Madotsuki (Yume Nikki)
Kaname Nonomiya (Gal Gun)
Copen (Azure Striker Gunvolt 2)
Shinobu Kamizono (Gal Gun: Double Peace)
Quote (Cave Story)
Jason Frudnick (Blaster Master Zero)
Reimu Hakurei (Touhou Project)
Shantae (Shantae)
Filia (Skullgirls)

Final Boss - Monika (Doki Doki Literature Club)

DLC Pack 1
Asimov (Azure Striker Gunvolt)
Poniko (Yume Nikki)
Maya Kamizono (Gal Gun: Double Peace)
Curly Brace (Cave Story)

DLC Pack 2
Marisa Kirisame (Touhou Project)
Risky Boots (Shantae)
Cerebella (Skullgirls)
Yuri (Doki Doki Literature Club)
