Springtails are INCREDIBLE! What are they & why are they important?

In this video you can learn a little about springtails. The footage I captured was of several globular springtails in their natural environment, with a few clips taken in a more controlled setup with more optimal lighting.

So nice when a Youtuber accommodates my latest obsession. LOL! With the cold rapidly approaching here in Wisconsin, I've been searching for ideas of what to shoot when the bugs are gone. I found out these are around during the winter and have been reading up on them. Haven't had a chance to get out and look, yet, but I'm excited to try. Thanks for the video. Those globular springtails look like little six-legged bunny rabbits - their body shape and their antennae are like rabbit ears, so cute!!

I just found these little guys on the frog bit in my aquarium.
Managed to take a few out and put them in an old beta cup with soil and bark and leaf litter. Threw a couple pieces of frog bit in too since they seem to like it lol

I’ve spent a lot of time down on the ground looking at the tiny things… seen many springtails… never seen one ☝️ of these globular ones tho!
I’d definitely have confused it for an insect, long legs with hair, long hairy antennae, obvious visible eyes…

I made an eco jar. Found a week later it's populated by springtails, some mites and a worm named Greg. Everything in there lives in harmony ATM. Keeping an eye on those mites though
