The world lost a hero with the untimely passing of Dr. Sarah Hallberg due to metastatic lung cancer. We can't begin to do justice to all that Sarah meant to us as individuals, as patients, and as colleagues. She will be forever missed, but her mission for patient advocacy will live on in all of us. She has touched and inspired so many lives and we owe it to her, and to ourselves, to continue her mission. We grieve for her loss and for her friends and family. Be at peace, Sarah.

Dr. Hallberg has been featured in many Diet Doctor videos, watch them here:

Dr. Hallberg's Ted Talk saved me from the conventional rabbit hole of medical treatment after I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Today, I'm free of diabetes because of what she taught. I will be forever grateful for her advocacy to upright the treatment for diabetes. Although I never got a chance to meet her, she will be forever in my heart. Thank you Dr. Hallberg for giving me my life back.

Dr. Hallberg is one of the few doctors I've ever had that called me personally -- what a great doc she was!

Absolutely gutted. Her video changed my life. I am diabetes free and 50 pounds lighter because she inspired me. I have forwarded that video to so many people over the years. We need more like her. Prayers for her family, friends, colleagues and admirers.

Sarah was one of the first low carb docs I listened to, besides Diet Doctor. She had an amazing story in starting Virta. I’m so sorry to hear of this great loss. 😢

3 years ago when my family doc told me I was on diabetes doorstep he sat me down in his office to watch a video. It was her TedX Purdue video. My Dr. Rathbone and Sarah saved my ass.

Thank you for doing this. I saw her TED Talk several years ago when my Mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. My mom was an uncontrolled T2 diabetic for 30 years and I never realized the connection between certain cancers and insulin. She inspired me to lead a low carb life to prevent myself developing diabetes and i have shared her TED Talk with anyone remotely interested. I am a RN and when I started my career 10 years ago and remember thinking a carb control diet from the ADA is anything but! Now, I routinely hear doctors counsel diabetics on low carb diets. The revolution will keep going thanks to Dr. Hallberg.

Thank you, Dr. Scherr, for this very moving tribute. Dr. Hallberg helped me save my life twice by first reversing my T2D in four months (9.1 to 5.0) but also helping me help my oncology team starve my late-stage IDC, turning all of the 20+ metastases into scar tissue. She was a hero to everyone she met. Thank you again and sir, please know that you are carrying the torch for her and doing a darn fine job. Bless you and everyone advocating for LCHF/Ketogenic Lifestyle. There’s hope that metabolic diseases will be on the downturn.

I am so shocked. As a physician, when I saw her TED talk about 5 years ago, it blew me away. I then hunted down all her videos on YouTube and have watched all of them, including amazing lipidoligy talks. I am very saddened by her loss. It's a loss to the entire low carb community. Thanks to her for her brilliant incite and her tireless pursuit of the truth.

We truly lost a true champion when Dr. Sarah Hallberg took her last breath on this earth. Even when faced with a terminal diagnosis, she never faltered in her mission to serve others by educating and dispelling dietary myths that were obstacles to them getting better. Most people, if confronted with such a grave prognosis, would retreat from work, but her indubitable spirit persisted. Despite Dr. Hallberg no longer being with us in body, her tenacity and her unrelenting pursuit to help others will leave a long enduring legacy.
