You forgot a very important step at the end, and that is to bake the painted actors into instanced meshes, if not, the performance will be horrible when you fill a whole map with these.

I am the developer of this tool, 5.3 is out, I have fixed this crashing bug, but I wanna test it in more environment, so please try to use the new one and let me know if you still getting crashes,
also there is a "Damp Velocity" check mark at the top, if you turn it off the object will fall normally and you don't have to wait.

Don't be a doofus like me and hit "Enable Gravity for selected actors", I managed to wipe all the blueprints in my scene from Static to moveable, breaking them, have to manually fix it now. Also, hold the left mouse click, don't click once, took me an awkward amount of time to figure that out. Amazing free plugin, so useful for set dressing.

Good video! aside from there's no need to adjust the collision type (simple as complex) in the menu after you generate a convex collision. That's the default behavior.
I tried the Physical layout tool, a while back, and honestly I couldn't get it work the way it was shown off in the videos. It barely functioned, and I had to fidget with it constantly. This video is great for clarifying the functionality, so thank you.
Also, Unreal has a basic version of this functionality built in already, it's just really not well known. You can turn on simulate physics on any static mesh or group of meshes, select them all and hit simulate, then just press k to save the state (translation) when you stop simulating. Much easier to use, albeit not quite as user friendly since it's a hotkey and requires you to manually enable and disable the simulate flag for it to work.

I do something similar just adding the meshes I want scattered around and just add physics, simulate, move stuff around where you want it, select all the meshes you want locked in place and pick the option to keep simulation changes. Done. But this is cleaner and more professional.

script would be cooler if it auto added a default collision type when they are added to the physical layout "bucket" or whatever it is called by the dev. surely the new version will have this.

Would the idea be to change all of their collisions to simple after they have settled where you want them to so they perform better?

wait wait wait, you set the collision to complex? First time you add auto collision and then you set the collision to complex? Whats the reason for this cause the complex collision is the mesh

go ahead dude, use UE 5 as much as you want in 2023 because in 2024 UE won't be free anymore for non game developer, the news is everywhere, so when it's still free go ahead dude, peace
