After the Columbine shootings in 1999, NRA head Wayne LaPierre and the group’s top officials, lobbyists and PR officials reportedly considered scrapping that year’s convention that was scheduled to take place in Denver, near the site of the shootings, and in the process revealed their thoughts on the industry and the group’s staunchest supporters, according to an NPR report Tuesday.

How did NPR end up with a recording of a private conference call 22 years after the fact? Who recorded it? I'm sure the answers to both these questions would be very illuminating.

Why aren't they playing the recording instead of the studio production with printed claims? Is this another instance among many hundreds of an unsubstantiated anonymous source? I remember pre- Trump when NPR was a reliable and respectable news outlet.

Means nothing. Only Americans understand "shall not be infringed".

I don't even see the story here. The only thing that could be a story is them referring to supporters as 'hillbillies and idiots' but most gun people lost respect for the NRA many years ago so thats not really going to do much. Everything else sounds perfectly predictable; of course they would reconsider their convention after columbine and of course the lobbyist is going to do what the organization wants him to, thats his job. Not to mention the fact that its 22 years old and they haven't even released the audio.

They always leave out the part that Columbine was intended to be a bombing but the bombs failed to go off.

Id like to actually hear tapes before I go with these "rumors" in sense. Not once does it say 100% thats what was said. It always says "reportedly said" over n over.

Is their a point here? I don't see one. This is a big eh.

The only thing I learned from the recordings is what I already knew: for the NRA to survive the members need to insist they clean house, replace the current board, and get back to core basics.

Every sane American should own, and know how to use a gun. It’s not the guns killing people it’s the people.

It as though Forbes is now NPR. What happened? What went wrong?

Ok.... How is this, in any way, relevant now?

Columbine was more about drugs than guns. I lived in that neighborhood.
