As the old saying goes, more isn’t always better. Today we’re going to be looking at 3 stories that embody this idea from the world of true crime. Far from being slackers, these are cases where criminals arguably put in TOO much planning and/or effort. The problem was that they seemingly never stopped to question whether their work was worth the anticipated reward.

After working for the USPS and seeing other employees steal a little trinket that fell out of an envelope. Losing twenty-five years of retirement and risking federal prison, was not worth it!
I worked thinking we were always being watched and filmed! I wanted to retire at some point, without bars in front of me!😮😂
Thank you for another great upload!

the leader of the group in the first case back at the hideout: "okay boys well were at a net loss. we are actually down money on this heist. BUT we've learned a lot and i think that's what really matters"

5:26 LOL. That sudden cut to the new tunnel destroyed me. Homeboy just *really* loves digging tunnels.

Here’s a little fun fact, I worked as a contractor for a Target Distribution Center. Once they suspected an employee or contractor of theft they will continue to gather evidence, and allow them to steal enough to file felony charges, and then sue them civilly as well. I don’t recall any actual Target employee’s stealing, it was always contractors like the pallet builders that thought they could get away with it. I can assure you, for every camera you CAN see, there are 2-3 more you will never even notice.

Whenever I think the name Olawale, I think the best, modt likely twin name to pair with that, would be Tony. Yep.
"Olawale, Tony! Time for dinner!"
Yep.
Bartholomew and Tim.
Guillermo and Bob.
Yep. 😆

The first one is funny. In the Netherlands (and Belgium and Germany) ATM robbers have a different method. They spray gas in the ATM and let it explode in a very controlled way. It’s called a plofkraak. Translated: a thud burglary.

last dude probably would have gotten away with it (at least for longer) if he had picked any store other than target, which is basically the only major retailer that’s psychotic about loss prevention

Imagine digging and reinforcing TWO 50ft + tunnels for such a piddly payout 😬

I’m a LEGO Nut, a few rungs short of Maniac status. I subbed because you blended my 2 favorite interests- True Crime videos & LEGO. Do you know what happened to Thomas’s unused UPC stickers? Asking for a friend.

It blows my mind that the judge went along with that obvious ruse for that long.. like wtf they discovered it was a lie the first time "tony" came to court and still let him do it again and again

1st story: Whole time I'm thinking: How much money can an ATM even hold?

The only thing I remember about Legos is stepping on them most of the time! 🤣😂

Having worked in a drug court and criminal court before, I’ve heard nearly every story/excuse under the sun but the guy in the second story definitely takes the cake.

First story reminds me of a small plot line from a book "The Stainless Steel Rat" by Harry Harrison. (Great book BTW) I'll wager that's where they got their inspiration. Last case is another exemplar of theft/fraud without any necessity. Too many naive people jump to the picture of a starving, minimalized person stealing to care for their family, when for some, it's just a way of life. A thrill. A way to mock society and fuel ego.

All that work and trouble for such trivial amounts. Thank you Nigel and Luke!

That first case is so funny 🤣 those dudes have so many marketable skills why did they not get legal employment?? Like the burrowing bandits with comically low stakes.

Woke up an hour ago here in Norway (7.30AM), took a shower and then fixed some coffee and started the day by watching this. A perfect start of the day, in my opinion. Thank you for (in this case) bringing a few massive smiles to my face! You're the best!

I am from the Meccano set era. They were the most fun way for a child to learn basic steel fabrication. They used precut steel pieces and nuts, bolts and washers to assemble things.

Perhaps another way of looking at your first story is that if they were able to afford the time and energy it took to build the tunnel, much less two tunnels, perhaps it wasn't money they were interested in as much as it was the notoriety of getting away with it and not being caught!
