I’m from Iowa, and when I seen Benjamin out there with Aaron I thought to myself, in a couple of years Benjamin would be old enough to drive that tractor and him and Aaron will be arguing over who is going to drive that thing lol. They start young here lol.

I garden in Minnesota, have lived in this home since our marriage. We've been here for 41 years. My gardens started about 25 years ago. I've kept notebooks with what I've planted, notes on what I want to plant, and what I call my dream gardens. It's great to go back and read them, to see comments, and read little anecdotes and comments from kids or grandkids. I have 6 or seven notebooks so far. Love it!

This is a wonderful example of the power of journaling, capturing life in the moment. As the scriptures say, making a record enlarges our memory. Why is enlarging our memory important? Bc it keeps our past alive, we can relive that exact moment as recorded in that time. It connects us to the people, the places, and the events that make up our life. We can journal about anything. Especially important is the gift that our journal provides our posterity. Bc we have captured our life in writing or in recording or in video, our voice, our example, becomes a powerful force and strength to them after we are gone. Imagine Laura's great grandchildren hearing stories about her around the dinner table. Now imagine those same great grandchildren reliving those same stories in perfect detail through her garden journal, through her video journal. They will hear her voice. They will see her image. They will feel her passion. They will see how she handles adversity. They will come to know her in a very real and intimate way. What an incredible gift and legacy to leave your posterity.

This winter you should do a “share your garden journal” video with us. I’d love to see everyone’s journals.

I love when you have dirt on your face. It’s a sign of your hard work and the reality of working in the yard. Thank you pretty lady for keeping it real.😘
P.S. I loved your garden journal. Thank you for sharing.

Didn't think I could love you and your videos more and then you showed your garden journal and talk about how it all started. What a beautiful journey 😍

Just a tour of your garden makes me happy. Finding your garden journal must have been an unexpected joy. You have such a good eye for planning your garden, but just sometimes less is better. Grass has such a calming nature and your grass is always so lush and green, that it can be as attractive as a flower bed. I’m sure whatever you plan will be beautiful.

I was just out by the road cutting the grass and a lady stopped and said my yard was looking good…all thanks to you Laura!! I have a long row of day lilies with a perennial flower bed on each end. I just bought more perennial seeds to get started. Foxglove, Butterfly bush and columbine.

You should recreate the apartment garden. It would actually be useful to everyday people with very small spaces.

Sweet memories from your journal. I am glad your bunny only went after the beans. Your garden looks so nice.

You guys should take down that Tree outside of your kitchen when everything is torn apart now, before you plant grass. That way it won’t be hard to bring equipment in to take it down.
Also, I keep a fancy recipe box full of plant tags & such for my garden journal 🪴🌻🌿

Photography is how I record the garden year by taking a pic of each plant at it's prime and each section of the landscape through the four seasons. Thanks for the Cut Garden Tour, Laura, and sharing your garden journal with us.

Sweet Annie, it is another love of a plant that if you plant it once you will never be free. It smells wonderful. It blooms late summer, early fall, tiny insignificant little balls. This is when it will dry and work as a marvelous filler and dry perfectly. It makes a great wreath base. Did I say how good it smells? I was told that it is considered a strewing herb. You would spread it on your dirt floors (way back in the day). I agree with you on the tomatoes, pruning makes them easier to manage, and maybe bigger tomatoes, but yield, I've never seen much difference. Your cut flower garden is probably my favorite of all the things you have in summer. Such abundance, so neat and tidy. Simply amazing. Thank you for sharing your journal! What a treat! How much fun is it to look back, it gives us a picture of ourselves and our gardens when both were younger. You have such neat handwriting. Wonderful.
