California Lawmakers Propose $400 Gas Tax Rebate

A group of Democratic lawmakers is proposing a plan to send a $400 tax rebate to every California taxpayer to help defray the increased cost of gasoline. Jocelyn Moran reports.

The state has a budget SURPLUS! That means Sacramento collected more money that it actually needed. Refund the money back to the taxpayers immediately!

This is our money to begin with so we shouldn't be excited by getting some of it back. We have $45B in surplus? Newsom is patting himself on the back for that, but that is something anybody could do when they tax you to death. Don't you think we're taxed enough already? Man, I'm talking to you residents of SF County, Marin County, Santa Clara County, Contra Costa County, Alameda the only ones who don't seem to get it....you continually vote for this crap. The MAJORITY of CA counties all want change. Please vote with logic instead of emotion in November.

If you haven’t traveled outside the U.S, you haven’t realized how gas is in other countries. For those of you putting blame on the U.S government for high gas prices, gas is also increasing in Canada and that’s a different country. The Europeans have been living with high gas prices for a long time. Their usual gas prices average to the equivalent of $7, $8, $9 and in some places even $10 dollars/euros. In London, gas prices average about $7 dollars/pounds, in Norway and Italy it’s the equivalent of $10. In Spain it’s currently around $5 dollars/Euros. However they use a lot of public transportation which offsets the cost of paying for gas. Here in the U.S people are way too in love with their cars that they can’t ever imagine using a bus or train.

Stupid and illogical proposal. Sure, you may get $400 from your state government but that rebate money has to be generated through taxes. You will be paying for that $400 rebate in the form of increased taxes so does this really help?

I saw the title and laughed, cause my truck fills out with $260 dollars right now, I guess I’ll be able to fill-out my gas tank once, if I ever see that rebate. I do have to clarify I have never received anything from the government so I will not hold my breath, but my neighbor has never missed a welfare check for the last 17 years. I guess I should have had kids every 3-5 years, and not look for jobs to keep those constant government checks coming. Here I was thinking that I needed work to make a living, when you can just live of other suckers tax money 🤦🏻‍♂️

Stop asking for government handouts! Work! I'm 18 and worked my way up to Starbucks manager making $19.15 and I'm hoping to one day buy Starbucks and pay a minimum wage of $25 to all of the baristas because I was one too. You don't see me demanding free money. I may be young, but I know a lot about life. I'm just giving you helpful advice.
