Note: the program just launched, so it definitely has some room for improvement, but we wanted to share in case you’re booking flights over the next few months!

Here’s the high level: Google Flights’ new feature guarantees the lowest airfare on select flights, and will refund you the difference up to $500 per year if the price drops between booking and take off.

There’s a few requirement for this, though -

➡️ The country must be set to United States, and the currency must be set to US dollars
➡️ It must be a roundtrip or one-way trip (aka not a multi-city trip)
➡️ You must be logged into a Google account AND have a US address and phone number when booking
➡️ The flights must have the program ‘badge’ selected throughout
➡️ The itinerary must be purchased using the ‘Book with Google’ button
➡️ The box next to the ‘Price Guarantee’ must checked before payment

Then, Google will monitor the flight, and if the price drops by $5+ before the first flight leaves, you’ll be reimbursed the difference, up to $500 per customer, on up to three flights, per calendar year.

To receive payment, you have to download the Google Pay app (you have to be 18 with a US phone number to download).

Hopefully, the program will become easier to use (and expand outside the United States!) in the future.
