The comments about the targets are not exact. The scanner scans the WHOLE surface. The targets just help it keep track when the scanner is moved around.

NASA had a very similar system, but no curing of foam.
The seats had to fit many people at a moment’s notice.
They used the “beans” from a beanbag chair, and put an airtight envelope around them.
Pilot sits in the seat, they sucked the air out, and the seat would retain the exact shape of the particular test pilot/astronaut until the next came along.

From space, to race.

I have yet to it happen for everyday people.
