how has it been a year already since my first epic animatic? this one's a little rough but i hope its enjoyable either way ^^ my head's empty cause i actually have COVID TT (so it forced me stay in and finally finish this) few notes below:

- sorry my odysseus is all over the place i started drawing this without an aged character design in mind LMAO
- 2:02 - 2:17 how i drew this sequence, it was kinda call-back to my first short animatic for "Just a Man" so if it feels familiar that may be why!
- uh thats it for now if i remember anything else ill edit lol

ty for checking it out ^^

The symbolism of Odysseus killing his past self so he can become the monster is a really nice detail.

Ok, but the glint of his eyes shifting dead when he said „I‘ll become the monster“ at the end? IMMACULATE.

Ooh, the fact that Ody not only kills the version of himself who hesitated, but MASSACRES him, reveals a self-hatred that underscores his anger so beautifully. Lovely lighting and scratchy lines, too--coupled with the ferocity of his expressions, it sells the brutality of this song so well!

Okay but the old Odysseus holding the infant close and protecting him even when he’s being attacked and the new Odysseus picking it up and holding it away from him to drop it over the edge was such a cold detail to add I love this so much!! Gave me chills!!!

Odysseus killing his old self and dropping the baby again hit deep, I was not prepared 😭 love everything about this, so good!

This animatic has given me the new headcannon that when odysseus gets the vision of being stabbed during the troy saga, its actually his future self abandoning who he once was, and effectively “killing” his past self.

The part where the crew views him as the monster even before Odysseus realizing the truth is Majestic!

I love the way Odysseus had to actively engage with Polyphemus and Circe but when it was Poseidon all Poseidon needed was proof that Odysseus was now at a point where he was *willing* to stand and fight rather than run away

And the way Poseidon almost seemed bothered by the fact that Odysseus didn't run was really interesting too, like at least for that moment Poseidon was like "This isn't fun anymore i'll come back when you've gone through some stuff", its a really interesting characterization!

The way that the prophet stares at him at the end like he knew that was going to happen is genius

Edit: i forgot this existed 💀

I love how even when past Odysseus is getting killed he isn’t defending himself but the baby and that current Odysseus doesn’t hesitate dropping the infant

I love how you make this right after No Longer You and Tiresias is ‘watching’ first hand what his prophecy is immediately doing. The symbolism of Odysseus killing his past self just to drop the infant with no remorse, that is the prophecy. It’s not the Odysseus we’ve known anymore.

I love that he's not only reflecting upon hades (as in the place) but he is also singing this to Thiesias, because it's like he is defying the will of the destiny he has been prophecised, not knowing he's walking right into it

Oof, I really love the interpretation of Odysseus killing his past self, and the way he does it, too—his expression as he does so. Almost as if he's saying to his past merciful self that it's *your* fault we're not yet home, that I'm still not able to see Penelope and Telemachus; if you had just been less soft, if you had just been more ruthless from the start, this could all be over. It's *your* fault, and you're in my way.

It's a slightly different take than I've seen other people do, which is this ruthlessness is within him but is something he has to accept (as if it's not the main aspect of him but just another part), but this almost suggests that it was always Odysseus' base nature, and other parts of him layered on top of that foundation stopped him from being that—and he needs to strip those layers of humanity away.

Absolutely wonderful animatic. Your art and work are amazing, and I am in awe. I love this so much! 🤩💜

The details when the madness in his eyes starts to show.

Also tiresias just standing there watching the man go through a whole identity crisis.

Odysseus killing his past self and dropping the infant again with the impact frame is probably some of my favorite depiction of those lyrics I've seen yet, chills.

Odysseus killing the cyclops to represent what he should’ve done, and Poseidon not attacking him because he respects him for pointing his sword at him 😭😭 loving the visuals !!

The deranged almost-smile when he goes "So *what* if I'm the monster?" is just asdfhhlpabwua
