“Gly”: Wet mines have some of the most interesting cave like features in them and this one was exceptional. The gas you were smelling was probably H2S hydrogen sulfide. It was bubbling up from around you and your friends feet as you stirred up the sediment. Best to have an O2 and H2S meter when exploring these types of mines. Looking forward to seeing part two! Stay safe.

Of all your mine explore videos this one really makes me miss my days of exploring California Gold Rush mines.

Great video guys, you seem to have found more than we did back in the 70s, someone must have cleared a blockage i suspect. This mine was a Zn mine back in the day but was very unusual in that there was lots of iron sulphide, that was oxidising to all those lovely hydrated iron oxides. These oxides are known as ‘yellow ochre’ and a plant was put in somewhere around world war 2 to recover this material for paint, the remains used to be at the base of the spoil heaps. Dont think it was successful. As an aside all those red buildings in Sweden are painted with iron oxides from an old mine in Central Sweden called Falun.
Love these videos but stay safe in there guys!

Really cool. Is this Cwm Rheidol??
Amazing mine with some epic features! Inspired me to find out what cave slime is and one of the top results was from NASA:
"Caves provide one of the most constant of environments; the temperature and humidity remain the same. But in some caves, hydrogen sulfide combines with oxygen to produce sulfuric acid. Some bacteria add their own acid as a waste product. To protect themselves, bacteria produce their own microenvironment within the slimy biofilm."

Think maybe the smell afterwards was due to acids in the mud? or maybe from the biological processes of the microbes. fascinating stuff

What a lovely valley. Where is it in Wales?

Do you get any naturally occurring caves in the region? Or does the geology not support the formation?
