Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on YouTube!

Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!

On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.

A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.

DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!

Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!

Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!

Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

Whew! You made it this far? Good for you!

“Gly”: Last month (January, 2024) YouTube deleted nearly 300 of my subscribers and they continue to do so daily. Let’s show em who’s boss! Hit that subscribe button and let’s see if we can make a difference. Thank you for your support!

Gly, I would enjoy an episode where you describe in detail each piece of safety equipment that you have and what it does for you.

Thanks, Gly, for choosing your battles wisely. We don't want to have to send in an expedition just to save your boots!

I can never get enough, about seeing all that timbering.. Couple that, with great cinemaphotography, great story line, and you've got what amounts, to magic.

Gly, your Saturday morning job has some of the sweetest views. It's not a job unless you love it.

I really like the new intro. Not wasting time with the Google Earth zoomy but getting right into it with the usual great music. Today: "There is No Sequel", Lupus Nocte, and "Sunset Dew", Philip Ayers.

Now with the sneak peeks earlier in the week about the upcoming episode I feel like I’m watching a preview to something really awesome. And then the release date comes up, it’s time to watch Abandoned and Forgotten Places.. TRULY AWESOME STUFF my friend.

22:13 Notice that the lower ladder is made one way and the upper ladder is made another way. The lower ladder is made in the traditional style with the rungs inset, but the upper ladder has the rungs scabbed on the surface as if it was done sometime later by others.

The building fly-through was great! Your drone work is excellent Gly!

What beautiful Rugged Country! Such great views from the Bird's eye point of view, thank you for always giving us such a great view of the region where you explore. Well, most times anyways, some places you can't because it would give away the location. And, by the way, I totally support your refusal to give locations of mines, because we just can't have nice things. there are far too many people who never grew up being taught to have respect for our history and the sanctity of historical sites. Like a bunch of stupid juvies they go in and remove things for themselves and also damage and deface the places with graffiti of all kinds. So great job as always Gly for doing your best in both documenting and preserving these jewels of our history.

I just wanted to add that I used to work as a dump truck driver for a very large Landscaping company and we used to sell large boulders for wealthy landowners as well as developers and Boulders or Rock of any kind is extremely heavy, and Quartz is among the heavier of the minerals and that massive boulder that came down behind that partially gobbed wall at timestamp 24:51, from the size of it looks to be about 1/2 to 3/4 of a metric tonne (500kg to 750kg or 1, 102 lbs. to 1, 653lbs.) if that fell on top of your head, you likely wouldn't even feel the pain before it broke your neck and crushed your upper torso. I'm sure that we all have enough of an imagination to figure out what such a boulder would do to you if it hit various parts of your body. The point being, that it's not something you would be able to brush off or walk away from, to put it mildly. When you showed the other "widow makers" in that mine; I have a healthy respect for the weight of Rock no matter what it's composition because when it comes to the human body, the differences in weight between the minerals comprising rocks, is nothing more than semantics, for all of the difference it makes. LOL when you go through tight spaces that is where I get really nervous for you and sometimes, I don't know how you do it Gly! You got Titanium Cojones to go into some of the places you decide to go into! Thanks again for a top-notch video, and as always, I wait with bated breath for your next episode!

Dang, Gly! Those opening shots were something. The subjects, the camera panning, the music - pure art.

Back when the mines were operational did the workers have lighting in the mines?

I like the drone flights over the mine site. It helps me with the geography, the lay of the land and helps to generate in my mind a 3 dimensional view of the entire mine. Some mines are very complex but this works well for the smaller mines.
