Bipolar mania is often misunderstood. Many people assume it's simply about feeling euphoric or energized, but in reality, manic episodes can lead to serious consequences. In this deep dive, we explore the symptoms of bipolar mania and the impact it can have on a person’s life. From inflated self-esteem and grandiose thinking to impulsive spending, risky sexual behavior, and reduced need for sleep, mania is far from just a “good mood.” These symptoms can escalate quickly and affect every area of life including finances, relationships, and physical health. We also discuss what it’s like to experience a manic episode, how racing thoughts and increased talkativeness play a role, and why those affected may struggle with concentration, self-care, and judgment. Many people living with bipolar disorder face challenges in work, education, and their personal lives due to the unpredictable nature of mood episodes. By recognizing the early warning signs and understanding the core features of mania — such as impulsivity, disinhibition, and extreme energy — individuals and families can better navigate the condition and seek appropriate mental health support. The aim is not just awareness but practical understanding of how bipolar mania can look and feel in real life.

my husband had mania at 71 for the first time. He has a compulsion to talk to everyone including strangers, gets in their face, asks them for personal information/money/lifts from delivery workers. he talks to everyone on the bus, late night train. he has little personal safety awareness and doesn't consider how others feel, he thinks they all like to be bothered by him. he has racing thoughts, speaks fast, has little sleep. he has been sectioned and he has been in 12 days and making little progress.

My dad was bi-polar and on the severe side. It was so bad because back when he started his mania he was only in his 20s and it was back in the early 1950s so very poor help. He was diagnosed and then put on Lithium, but overly medicated. I was born in 1969 and he actually did not have another breakdown until I was 9, and then he was 46. He always thought the devil was after him and had heightened senses of smell and hallucinations. In and out of psych wards too. He just past away at 88 in 2020. He had times he was stable too so I did have good times with my dad and he was really kind. So sad he had this awful disease though.

My now ex-girlfriend is in the midst of s manic episode. She has no clue, won't listen, and has destroyed everything. She is everything in this video, on steroids.
I don't know when, or if she will come out of it. But when she does, I'm certain there will be regrets. So sad to see.
