These were characters I grew up with as a kid... And watching them get annihilated after getting emotionally attached really hit hard especially for the ones killed off screen and you see their bodies scattered or the ones that you see in split second frames never to return to the series

I remember going to the movies to see this as a kid. Back then there was no Internet and no spoilers. You only saw trailers in the theater (unless you happened to catch the trailer on an episode of At the Movies with Siskel and Ebert). We had no idea what was coming.

Half of your favorite Autobots were massacred in the first 10 minutes of the movie. When they showed the plume of smoke gush from Prowl’s mouth when he was shot and then the lights literally go out in his eyes, you knew it just got real.

I don’t think I was able to pick my jaw off the floor for the duration of the movie.

Sunstreaker didn't die, he just disappeared.
Like Hound and many more.

Tracks, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Bluestreak, Hound or Gears deaths weren't confirmed. We don't know if they died..

I grew up watching Transformers the Movie, so for me as a kid it was completely assimilated smoothly that Ironhide, Ratchet, Bluestreak die, and Optimus obviously. But now that I look back at that movie, I realize that was pretty brutal stuff for kids who'd been following all those characters in a super naive, innocent series. It's like they softened the kids up for a long stretch, and then bam they smash them.

Sunstreaker didn't die.. he and hound were on the ship with Optimus. And were notably absent from the casualty list in the memorial ship.

I was suprised that prowl, wheeljack, ironhide, ratchet, and hound died because they were either major characters, or middle characters, but they only died because their toys were discontinued.

I learned to like Transformers: The Movie, but I absolutely hated it when I first saw it as a kid when it came out . Killing off all of the Autobots was jacked up, and the idea that Prime died but Megatron got to be recreated as Galvatron always pissed me off. Between my brother and I, we had a huge collection of the G1 Transformers, and Hasbro killed them all off just to sell more futuristic-looking toys that nobody liked or could relate to anymore.

When I first saw this at 5 years old, the shot of Prowl with glowing eyes and smoke coming out of his mouth gave me nightmares.

Despite how much I love the movie, it would have been great if during the Battle of Autobot City they could have shown each Autobot who perished get shot down like in the background or something. Coz while we do see Wheeljack and Windcharger's corpses, other bots like Sunstreaker, Hound or Bluestreak just stood around for one scene and were never seen again.

Still, at least Powerglide and Warpath survived.

Actually sunstreaker never died he just disappeared unlike hound, gears, and some others who died in the comics and that was counted as canon for the show.

Not entirely accurate.
Sunstreaker arrived on the shuttle with Optimus and the Dinobots on the 2nd day of the battle.
(But was also somehow working on the barricade that Hotrod broke through prior to the attack!)

This list is brutal and highly inaccurate. Sunstreaker, Bluestreak, Tracks, and Red Alert did not die in the film. There is no evidence to suggest that Sideswipe died either.

One thing I don't understand. If the Junkions, brought Ultra Magnus back when he was blasted into pieces, why couldn't they repair and bring back the other Autobots?
