Ultimately the unplug solution worked, but with about a 1 minute delay. At first it looked like my problem was persisting (only the volume, input, and power buttons working), as soon as I removed the batteries again to try the button solution a message appeared saying something along the lines of "something went wrong with the spectrum guide, rebooting". As soon as this resolved, the remote returned to working as normal.

well-i seem to have one number 4(channel button) that won't work, the up channel button works but not down channel...(???),
and guide button will bring it up-but it sticks and i can't get it to go off to channel i want...by pushing select/ok button.!
Why-what is the issue? Bad buttonsI've cleaned carefully all buttons, pressed them, changed batteries-did all you suggested..no luck-even rebooted tv/cable(unplugged cable/tv.
Looks ike-i just need a new remote!
