In 1983, the Ukrainian Canadian community and the global Ukrainian community commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Holodomor Famine Genocide. Millions of men, women and children were murdered by the Communist regime during the Holodomor Famine-Genocide, because of the Ukrainian people’s aspiration for independence, their desire to maintain their traditions and speak their language.

In this video, we talk about the role of the Ukrainian Canadian community in researching the Holodomor, advocating for the Holodomor recognition by the Government of Canada, and honouring the memory of the millions of victims of the Holodomor.

This film was narrated by former Canadian Senator Raynell Andreychuk. In 2003, Senator Andreychuk introduced a motion in the Senate calling on the Government of Canada to recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide. The motion was adopted unanimously.
