In Los Angeles in the 60s there were Sicilian immigrants who had real Italian sausage and cheeses at the farmer's market. My grandparents were in tears after being in America for 50 years. My favorite story is the cheese hanging over a bowl collecting the oils leaking from the cheese. It was sold for dipping real Italian bread (before brominated and fortified flours).

This is incredible, I’ve seriously been wanting to do this partly as a prank but partly as a public service announcement because American “Italian” food has seriously corrupted the identity of Italian food in the U.S.

The way Italian food has evolved in the U.S. isn’t entirely bad and deserves to exist in its own right but it’s definitely its own separate cuisine at this point and shouldn’t be called Italian or even really Italian “style” as so many companies market their products since it’s nothing like the “style” Italians prepare food in and is often just a mass produced, highly processed, cheap imitation of Italian food that like most things here in the U.S., prioritizes making as much money off of as cheap of a product as possible and sadly becomes the first or sometimes the only thing many Americans know when they think of “Italian” cuisine.

Lol all i can think is those labels over the originals is vandalism and the cameras pick him up and have him arrested, banned(trespassed) and pay for every product he tampered with. In canada, any product with a torn label or crunched box is not allowed to be sold. Food banks get some, liquidation stores get some.

My uncle lived in Italy back in the late 60s (in the military). He said if you wanted pizza there it didn't look anything like American pizza.

Pasta sauces are displayed in order by quality. Just like fine wine Raos is on the top shelf.😊
