El álbum fue nombrado después de un incidente en The Pump Room de Chicago, donde a Collins se le denegó el ingreso al establecimiento debido a su atuendo. No Jacket Required contiene la participación de muchos artistas, incluyendo a Helen Terry, Peter Gabriel y Sting.
