I carry an air compressor and it does the same thing. All it does is blow air back up in to break the calcium up and away from the drain port

Is this better than the metal auger one?

I had sediment built up all the way to the opening where the bottom heating element screws in. 🤮
The heating element was as completely toasted, broken.

I used a shop vac 2.5” hose reduced to about 1.5” hose and vacuumed it all out through the heating element opening.
There was some big chunks that I had to keep breaking up so it would fit through the hose but I got it all out.

I rinsed it best I could through the top heating element opening, then I filled and drained the water heater tank twice.
All the coating that’s inside the water heater still looked good after it was all cleaned out.

Replaced both burners and the thermostat.
I wouldn’t say it’s “good as new” but it’s close. 😂

Wouldn't sediment just collect back in drain fairly soon?

Always replace that valve with a proper ball valve, or install one when new.
Thank me later!!

I watched someone use one of those things and it tore up the inside of the tank and literally cracked the rod.

Screw Amazon. I don't buy anything from Amazon. No benefit in one company getting most of the online retail business. If you drain the heater regular the sediment wouldn't build up.
