this reminds me of how i’m convinced i was the first person to obtain a shiny yamper. preordered sword on the eshop and started playing as soon as it came out. literally the first pokémon i find in the grass once you get balls was a shiny yamper. caught it and used it for the whole playthrough, it was to the point where serebii didn’t even have the shiny sprite for shiny yamper, i’m sure there’s a possibility i wasn’t the first but i was definitely close

I don't even know the encounters, but my best friend hunted a shiny starter treecko in oras for 4 years and 10 months, he only very recently got it and to say we celebrated was an understatement. For context, the hunt started at the start of our college years, and now we're both in work haha!

I'll never forget my first shiny. It was like, 2 days after Gold and Silver dropped, and I hadn't even made it to the red Gyarados yet. I encountered a shiny persian just west of Ecruteak, and I was so confused, but I caught it anyway.

Side note, hearing you say you're old when you're barely in your 20s makes me feel ancient.

Dallas went over 70k resets for shiny Registeel, that was nuts. Now, Taylor is getting his numbers up there for his shiny Bitzle/Zebstrika hunt, I've sat in on quite a bit of his streams with no action happening & yet, I still throw channel points on betting he will find a shiny. Last I saw, he was in the later part of the 50ks. He's triple hunting but doing so in the double encounter grass so it's insane that he still doesn't have a shiny, don't know if he'll ever pass your number but suppose we'll see. I sat in on Dallas' streams for Registeel & I did not think he was going to get into 70k range but he did so anything is possible.

Funny story about Pokemon Y similar to your Pichu, is the very first wild Pokemon I encountered after being given Pokeballs turned out to be a shiny Litleo.

Obviously, I used her for the entire game, and she basically solo carried me through that gen's league.
