Lomography Did The UNTHINKABLE

If you hadn't heard the news, Lomography lowered prices on their entire range of 120 medium format analog film! In an economy where literally everything is becoming more expensive, Lomography has bucked that trend and actually started lowering prices on some of their film photography products.

They sent me a couple of rolls and in this video I had the opportunity to shoot a roll of Lomography Lomocolor 120 film. I shot the images on my trusty Mamiya 645 medium format film camera.

Lomo is the realest. Always supporting creators and photographers. Pushing out new products for a variety of skill ranges.

the weird lines are light leaks. Im fighting the same issue with my 645. I replaced the seals and i added gaffers tape on the back. Waiting on developing to see the results.

Lomo 800 is one of my favorite films. Also Lomography community is the best and the company always supports creators. 🙌

Two thumbs up from north of the border for venturing out in proper cold. 👍👍 The crunch of that snow is all I need to hear to appreciate that it was a wee bit chilly that day. 😁 Check out Helmcken Falls in BC for quality winter waterfall action. Beautiful tall falls that builds a cone of ice up from the bottom over winter. When I taught in nearby Kamloops, I used to get out to that park as often as I could for a mental reset.
Great to hear Lomography is helping make film more accessible, and doing so ethically.

Oh, don't worry, we've busted the climate pretty good at this point. You'll be seeing lots of crazy weather moving forward. We had 70F here in Michigan In February this year. It's a weird situation - being excited for nice weather while at the same time feeling a sense of dread that it shouldn't be nice weather...

Those relatively compact 645 SLRs are amazing. I've shot most of the Mamiyas, old to new, even the AFD. I still have a 645E I need to sell. In the end I found the viewfinder superior on the Bronica ETRSi, especially after fitting it with an Olsen screen. The prism finder with both a spot and center meter is excellent as well.

My only issue with Lomo 120 is loose rolls. It works fine in my ETRSi and C220, but in both my GW680 and Fujica Super Six I get loose rolls. I thought it was just bad loading, but I've come to realize it's something about the film, since it's never been an issue with any other brand.

@ streaks: Light leaks or shutter malfunction?

I have a few old Lomo 800 120 rolls in my fridge. I was considering picking up some more with the price drop. Have they fixed the issue with the fat rolls? I don’t know if it’s the Lomo spools or the backing paper, but I consistently get fat rolls where the film doesn’t tightly wind onto the taking spool no matter what camera I use.

Fantastic video. As a transplant to WV, you have convinced me to get over to Cumberland Falls for a photo visit soon.

It was nice of Lomography to do this. I’ll have to buy some and get the word out.

The standard Lomo Color films are 100% Kodak Gold stock repacked but who cares? They always seem to work and Kodak does not sell Gold 100 and 800 (400 is technically Ultra Max but this is only in 35mm). Missing however the days where you could get a 3-pack for 15€ :/. I am doing less experimental stuff the last couple of years…

Hmm, are these stripes at the same position on all negatives? Since they run perpendicular to the length of the film on 6x4.5, they might be some type of light leak. Or a scan problem?

It was nice of Lomography to send you some rolls.

What an awesome video! I've not yet shot any Lomography film but I'm going to have to give it a try based on this. As it turns out, I've been trying to get a working Mamiya 645 since December. My first eBay attempt ended up going back. My second local purchase seemed to work just fine until I screwed in a cable release. I've got 3 rolls of Gold 200 waiting to go once I get the camera back. BTW - I also love me shots of water going from high-up to down-low (AND I have a niece with a new baby in KY that I need to go visit, so those falls of yours could be on my bucket list). Thanks!!

I'm from Wisconsin and I say you're allowed to call anything below 0 "cold" without getting harassed by northerners. It's cold.

Nice of them to lower prices this soon after I got a Yashicamat though, maybe I'll have to buy some.

Lomography has had an out-sized influence on film photography, and hopefully lowering prices will cause other manufacturers to reduce prices.

I am also hoping that the introduction of their new 110 camera will be a hit causing other manufacturers to start making 110 film again. Would love a 400 speed black and white, Portra or Phoenix in 110.
