Introduction to what is a Chromebook and who is it for

Introducing my Asus Chromebook and explaining what a Chromebook is all about

I think that they’re growing a lot because schools are really embracing them, both because they’re cheaper and simpler than PC’s. I don’t like google docs very much though, the spreadsheet in particular.

One thing not mentioned here is Chrome OS is built on top of Linux (mainly Gentoo Linux). People who are tech savvy, and buy a high enough specked Chromebook can also run Linux apps as well as the chrome based web interface. I know this won't be for the average user, however there are Tech Savvy people who use Chromebooks, and this is one thing they do. I personally have never owned a Chromebook, or used Chrome OS.

Chromebooks have become awesome. I love them. I use a desktop PC, a laptop, and a Chromebook. Chromebooks also sync well with your Android phone. My elderly father (not a tech person at all) recently started using a Chromebook for browsing, email, reading digital newspaper, YouTube. He was able to learn it easily, and loves the Chromebook.
We have the Lenovo ones. They seem quite good.

Hej Gill thanks for the video chromeboks is nice as you say for basic things but personally I prefer Windows and a PC but everything is about what you do. I also like to play advanced computer games you can say me is a hardcore gamer. But I think Gill your Chromebook is great and Asus makes nice computers and other technical things. Furthermore, so far I am very happy with my new gaming laptop it is an MSI Pulse GL76 11UEK. Gill do you still have your Amiga? what good game there was to it me considering buying a retro computer again. I had a Commodore 64 but it died load games with a cassette station i feel old sometimes like i was from the stone age but it was fun times. We two 1969 guys would have fun playing old games take care Gill have a nice weekend.

Chromebook is really Linux underneath. I heard that they are using it for students a lot. Battery life, as you say, is amazing.
- Back in the day when travel was easier, I would love to take the Chromebook with me. It was lighter, and enough when being on the road. And as you pointed out.. usually the video is superb. Although I would get them at Walmart for about half of what you paid.

I like how it connects to my printer through my WiFi, Google can scan the WiFi connection and lists and available printers and scanners. My Windows Desktop has trouble connecting from across the room wirelessly, it easier to just connect directly with a USB cable. I have just purchased my first Raspberry Pi 4 for just over $100 and it is built inside a keyboard, which makes it very portable. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, four USB ports and 32GBs of memory. (I think it will expand to 128GBs) The Debian Linux comes with a complete open source Office program. I bought it to use it to control my mini split air conditioner. I learning Python programming to access the temperature and IR kits I purchased for it. I have found not all the software needed is distributed in Debian. That is another story, but I do think it just as powerful as my last Chrome Book. Still watching, love your approach to reporting the Computing News, keep on puting.

Now that I look at your Chromebook, Windows 11 looks way more like Chrome OS rather than MacOS!

Chromebooks could be a game changer....can you imagine if Microsoft keep being stupid with all these operating system upgrades etc and Google comes along and says hey we'll let old hardware run on our chrome OS hahaha!

Chromebooks are OK if you need a lightweight laptop for minimal computing, as a main computer forget about it. To get anything done you have to tie yourself to the internet. Very little hard drive space and very little features. And very boring. A full feature Windows Laptop is a much better choice and the same goes for a desktop computer.
