Noise is subjective; it's not the level but type of noise. An irritating hum that comes on in the middle of the night can drive you potty. I have the thing timed to go off at night - takes ages to heat up in the morning and end up using a fan heater.

It's the TYPE of noise rather than the loudness. I wouldn't want to live with that hum.

So basically if everyone switches to heat pumps all residential neighbourhoods will start to sound like industrial estates. That's something to look forward to isn't it everyone.

the problem I have with this is that a noise cancelling microphone in a modern video camera or mobile phone is not going to give a true representation of the true background noise you will hear in the house.

Rubbish ....Ive had the misfortune to have stayed in a holiday home in Norfolk surrounded by these things. The noise is horrendous! Maybe fine for a few months until the bearings loosen up and then awful

I can hear the pump on laptop speaker which is on vol 42 right, when your standing next to that green door entrance at the beginning of the footage, its in the key of D. Basically heat pumps are noisy.

Yeah, that constant hum would definately drive me crazy.

Pleasantly surprised actually and I am now encouraged to look at what would be involved in having one installed

coming from someone who sells or installs heat pumps would you expect them to say "yes heat pumps are noisy"! When I was in Australia, next door adjacent our bedroom, the click and whirr that occurred each time it started and stopped, would affect our sleep. Yes, with daily activity and noises in daytime one might say it was quiet. In the quiet of the night it was damn noisy. Imagine a car door opening and closing and the car starting. Not that noisy, sleeping with that going on over and over and over all night.

Yes, it's not a "noise" but a vibration. I got people upstairs who have one and it is driving me crazy.

They all start off quiet for 6 months to a year and like all these things become vastly noisier thereafter exactly like air-conditioning units. I've never heard a quiet fan on one of those after that timeframe.

I have many questions. For a lot of autistic people and others not on the spectrum it is the kind of noise rather than the number of decibels. Surely it is impossible to ascertain how the noise is going to affect us on a video as it depends on where the pump is and the structures it vibrates or how enclosed it is ? What happens to these pumps outdoors when it snows ? What if you cant have a pump on your outside ? There really ought to be a trial period so that anyone who cant stand the noise can return it without any cost.

Stay next to a school that's seeking planning permission to install four of these. Just had a letter from local council to inform us.
There going to be installed 10 metres from our house,
Apparently the noise level we will hear from each of them is 51db, seems very unreasonable to me.

Appreciate anyone's opinion.

Horrendous. Imagine a whole estate full of these things. As if modern traffic noise wasn't enough. This ruins people's health.

It can always be inside a larger weather protector box open on side where i5 sucks air in to have even better insulation from sound.

Hi, Its still a really tricky subject . Its really hard to get data for sound levels, at different settings, for Valient, dakin & ecodan.
Does this sound level change with output power ? Defrost mode etc ?

I have one of these mitsubish heat pumps. Its noisy while charging up energy to produce hot water, more so during early hours during the morning. It's an expensive machine to run, uneconomical and definitely not new technology. Unfortunately to much time is taken to provide a warm home and in adequate heat source during freezing temperatures.

Would be good to hear it without you talking. I can still hear it when you are talking but good to have both as most of the time no one will be talking next to the heat pump !

That consistent “hum” I could hear when you were talking would drive me nuts - my neighbour is having one fitted this week - and honestly I’m dreading it - it will be like someone running a bloody lawn mower 24/7 and if at night if I want our bedroom window open it’s going to be awful - they should be bloody banned - horrible bloody things - and it’s within a metre of our border with him - he didn’t even tell us he was having one fitted - bloody awful - going to ruin the peace in our garden

What way have you mounted the heat pump? Issue with my heat pump and the vibrations through the house. Especially at night.
