Should You REFUSE to Sign Traffic Tickets!? #LawsExplained #LawyerReacts

A very common myth circling the Internet is that you shouldn't sign traffic tickets. People believe it's an admission of guilt, and you're confessing to the violations listed. This is NOT correct. Your signature is just stating that you have received the ticket, not that you are guilty of the crime.

If you have been following me for a while, you will know that police have used tas3rs on grandmas over not signing traffic tickets. So, just sign the ticket, then fight it in court later.

In court, 99.9% of the time, the judge will side with the officer. Even if present 4 signed affidavits, the judge won’t care. It’s not about safety. It IS about city, county, or state revenue …

Everything that happens with a cop, has to do with keeping a cop calm, respectful, and non escalation. When it should be the other way around. So we as free citizens must make sure a cop who is a ' public servant's doesn't get his/her ego bruised. WOW!

I once asked a Monterrey, CA police what would happen if I refused to sign the ticket. He then replied, "I'll arrest you right now.". Needless to say that I signed the ticket

An elderly Atlanta pastor refused to sign his ticket, resulting in the cop's escalation and his shooting the driver dead. His family recently got a huge settlement from the City of Atlanta.

Most times they'll just arrest you for refusing.

Who shows up to court claiming to have not received the ticket? Umm, how did you know when you know when to show up then?

If that escalates the stop, fire the officer.

Totally agree with your primary point.

If all cops have body cam, why the need for confirmation of receivership? If not all cops have body cams, what are they hiding?

In some states, like in Florida, refusing to sign a traffic ticket is NOT illegal unless it is a criminal infraction. Florida distinguishes between a traffic sitation and a criminal citation. Example (not actual law) like a speeding ticket of under 15 mph is just a traffic violation where as speeding over 15 mph is considered a criminal violation as it is reckless driving.

Dag states still do that. In South Carolina, you get a printout on the spot and you are on your way. No signing going on here.

Thank you very much because I was led to believe that signing the traffic ticket was the same as pleading guilty to the offense

If driving is a privilege why do we sign away or rights to use it.

I've been told by cops in Colorado that signing waives my right to fight it in court.

In Georgia, refusing to sign provides probable cause for an arrest. Sign the dang ticket, fight it in court.

In Australia, signing the ticket indemnifies that specific officer. I have a firm belief that nobody is immune from the repercussions of their actions regardless of who they represent. Like the trials of Nuremberg "I was just doing my job" is no defence.

One thing I realized wile taking a shower was technically if you think about it everything can be restored to a original condition. It’s just a matter of how damage is it and if it’s not too damaged that you can buff it out then you can just do that or if it’s something with paint, you can just repaint it so really it’s just a matter of. Are you willing to pay for it, so technically, everything can be returned to its original condition unless it’s completely incinerated destroyed beyond recognition those are the only two limitations that I can think of

In most jurisdictions, it’s also an illegal not to sign it. And the cops will have no choice but to arrest you.

I just got 2 tickets and I declined to sign them. She was a rookie and I tried to take advantage of it. She agreed that I wouldn’t sign them and proceeded to hand me the tickets, no inspection dead tags afterwards she had the thought of running back to the car to ask someone a question before I left. I reminded her that the stop had already taken 17 minutes, and that she had given me the tickets so technically the detainment was over. I wasn’t rude and I didn’t call her a tax collector. She briefly smiled looked down and walked back to her car. I immediately left and disappeared before she had that o s moment. I’m not suggesting that anyone try this but it has worked for me before. This guy makes some interesting points but when it gets down to it he is part of a system that was set up to make money. They almost all work together, attend gatherings at the judges house and mingle with each other. Life is good
