Dude I'm from Ecuador and you really have no idea how lucky you are to had come down from Cerro Santa Ana without any problem, seriously. They kill, not only rob people just for $20 or your cellphone. As a matter of fact, if you haven't had film this I wouldn't have any idea how that place is. That's why everyone was so worried about you and they were telling you to hide your camera.

Be careful dude it is not worth to risk your life like that and it's not an exaggeration.

That taxi driver was so honest and felt compelled to warn him about the terrible dangers in that area. But he didn't take him seriously. Most ppl could care less if you're wondering around a bad area as a foreigner. I've traveled dozens of times throughout south America, only once someone sort of warned me that I was in a bad area. I did take it seriously and got out of the area immediately.
