Bernie, the first time I heard of your name and heard you speak was in a video in early 2015 from a university classroom in Texas, talking to students... I have never forgotten what you said. "The problems that we face did not come down from the heavens. They are made by bad human decisions, and good human decisions can change them." I had always been politically inactive and jaded, but like a light bulb going off I understood our problems to be an issue of organizing our society better, and fighting the everpresent problem of legalized bribery a.k.a financial corruption sapping the political will to do better for American citizens.
After you announced in early 2015, I signed up to volunteer for your campaign and thought of it as a serious commitment akin to having enlisted in the Air Force at a younger age. You were at 3% in the national polls at the beginning, then we ignited the Summer of Sanders! I was a supervolunteer and Democratic convention delegate for you. I wish we were currently in Year 7 of a Sanders Presidency and I think about this often. Bless you for fighting the good fight every day and for using your Senate Committee gavel well.
Democracy in America died in the Supreme Court chambers in 1976, Buckley v Valeo, when value-bearing money became "Free Speech" for corporations to control all publicly elected seats in our government.
