NASA's massive Artemis 1 rocket is counting down the days before its second attempt to return to the moon, and when it does, you can watch the historic mission live online for free.

The Artemis 1 mission is set to launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 1:04 a.m. EST (0604 GMT) on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

NASA will conduct a series of webcasts building up to the uncrewed Artemis 1 launch, which will be the Space Launch System megarocket's maiden test flight with the Orion spacecraft.

The last time a rocket this strong thundered off a KSC pad was in 1973, when a Saturn V moon rocket lifted Skylab into orbit, bringing the Apollo era to a close, so this month's event should be quite an event.

When it comes time to light the candle, NASA said it will provide complete coverage of Artemis I's prelaunch, launch, and postlaunch operations. This historic uncrewed dress rehearsal around the moon will pave the way for a crewed moon-bound flight test with Artemis 2 in 2024, and a real lunar landing with Artemis 3 in 2025.

Those fortunate enough to see the Artemis 1 event in Florida will be astounded by the 8.8 million pounds of thrust battling gravity and sending the elegant SLS rocket and Orion space capsule towards the skies. For the rest of us, NASA has officially announced the schedule for the free Livestream feed, which will allow us to watch the mission from the comfort and safety of our own homes.

Live event coverage will be available on NASA Television, the NASA mobile app, and the agency's official website, as well as prelaunch events.

Sure, it won't deliver the same spectacular experience as the Earth-shaking blastoff, but it's the next best thing and you won't have to deal with the heat, parking issues, or massive crowds.

On the day of the launch, there will be celebrity appearances by Jack Black, Chris Evans, and Keke Palmer, as well as a patriotic performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by Josh Groban and Herbie Hancock. The Philadelphia Orchestra and cellist Yo-Yo Ma will then perform "America the Beautiful," led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Whether you witness Artemis 1 in person or through NASA's webcast choices, it's sure to be the fireworks display of the year!

Check out NASA's extensive coverage schedule link in the description for a complete summary of all the speeches and events surrounding Artemis 1's spectacular mission.
