Here's a joke: why does University don't like Community Colleges.
Because they don't want to be ASSOCIATED

My husband is a firefighter, making about $25k more than that fire inspector. No degree, just a certification that his job paid for. Trades are awesome.

I think you shouldve mentioned nurse. Just a 2 year degree and I was making 65k right out of community College. Less than 4 years later and I'm at 85k. Best decision I ever made!

Update. 5 years later and I made 103k last year.

I'm a biomedical engineer and the first job I got after graduation paid me 110k per year. Totally worth it.

The issue is that most local community colleges don't provide many of these majors

I’m working on an Associate Degree in computer programming and analysis. I know you can learn everything you need about programming online, but 1. I like the structure, 2. It’ll look decent on my resumé, and 3. my wife works at the college I’m attending, so my tuition is completely free!
I’m really enjoying it so far! 😊

To work in the IT field you don't really need a degree. What they truly care about is certs. I have a friend that works at Cisco making about $100, 000 a year and he doesn't have a degree.

The advantage of the associate degree coursework is it gets you into an employable field quickly. Many employers, especially medical facilities, offer tuition assistance for employees to continue their education. Also, with an Associate degree with accredited core courses you can more easily continue to the University BA/BS degree plans.

I have an Associates degree in biological science and work in a hospital laboratory for quest diagnostics. I’m a grossing Histology technician. The lab jobs are slept on. I tried nursing and it takes a specific type of soul to be a nurse and that was not my soul lol. I’m currently working on my bachelors in biological science. The ultimate goal is to get my masters in anatomic pathology and become a pathologist assistant. PathA.

Don’t forget Radiology. Radiology is a great Associates of Applied Science degree. It’s so flexible as well. X-Ray techs can do Computed tomography(CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), interventional Radiology(IR), Mammography, work in surgery, ultrasound, be a Radiologist Assistant(RA), and work in many branch’s of the military (Air Force, Army, and Navy). Some of the modalities of radiology do require extra certification like MRI and Ultrasound, but cross training is highly encouraged in most radiology departments. If you want to research how to get into each modality within radiology, I suggest searching the The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Sonography/Ultrasound Technician is also great; highly-demanded, pays well and usually only 2 years
