This is definitely what I need to do! I have measured everything once and put them all on a notebook in my phone but I haven't drawn it out yet. Actually seeing it on paper would be a better than just seeing it in my head. This was very helpful. Thanks Mark!!

That’s awesome. I’m planning on renovating my kitchen in a year or so. I actually have a very large kitchen with empty cabinets! There’s just two of us. My daughter is grown. We have a huge island. No dishwasher. But we have no room for a dining table! I’ve been researching ideas to make my island the dining area with room for 6. I’ve started woodworking so I’ve been playing with the idea of making it myself.

Drawing the spaces beyond the kitchen is helpful especially if you want to consider a new layout. How might people enter the room or move around with a different layout. For example I am considering removing a peninsula and rotating and expanding an island. Alternatively I might leave the peninsula but reduce the counter top so there is no overhang for seating. I really need to evaluate how traffic flow changes with the adjoining spaces.

I'm curious - what design program do you use, and are you satisfied with how it depicts a space in a 3d rendering?

Awesome video Mark, curious to know with designing a small galley style kitchen one of two things 
1) is it ok to have all draws for ease of functionality and as appose to a mix of cabinets and draws and would and all draw design look aesthetically pleasing? I'm not to worried about where to put staples in the main kitchen area as i have generous space to create a walk in pantry/laundry zone, curious to know your thoughts
2) can you divide the main back wall say in thirds to house the sink and stove cook top at either end and still look nice and function ok? I'm trying to avoid full size island if a can so i can so I can put in a dining table in. I was thinking of a half to 3/4 size one that it's purpose is for meal prep and more storage (no sinks or appliances if possible) and then attach the dining table to the end of that
am i on the right track with my thinking? i have a space sorry for the metrics 4m long x 3m wide to play with

Why am island? Did you think to put in a peninsula instead? 🧐 pros and cons of a peninsula opposed to an island please! 💜
