Common kitchen design mistakes and solutions that do not require major renovations. #homehacks

Let's explore how to avoid three common design mistakes without major renovations! Make sure to follow for more intentional design!

1- Standard depth fridges? Nope! 🚫 Opt for a countertop depth fridge. It provides better scale and flow for your kitchen, especially if it's small. Plus, standard depth ones are like black holes where food gets lost and rots.

2- Cabinets not reaching the ceiling? Let's fix that! 🛠️ The space above just gathers dust. Enclose it with a wall and paint it or wallpaper it for a fun detail. Or build a smaller second set of cabinets on top of existing ones - glass doors and backlighting can really amp up the style quotient.

3- Lights, camera, action! 💡 All lights on at once can be a bit much. If your home wasn't set up with different circuits, install dimmer bulbs and switches. Battery-operated under-cabinet lighting is a great add-on too.

Remember, a beautiful kitchen doesn't have to be a massive project or a huge expense!

In all fairness, the example pic for the counter depth fridge is not counter depth. It just has a built in cabinet around it

Yes, the dust collected on top of cabinets. Thanks for the tip

Did all these when I remodeled, and I love them!

I feel this with the default cabinets the builders installed. So much wasted space and everything up there gets dusty and gross...

I love the cabinet tip, but my ceilings are very high. If I put my cabinets to the wall, I will not be able to use them. I would need a ladder to put things up and take things out.

Ask your appliance repairman about counter depth fridges, before you open your wallet WIDE to buy one.
If you're doing a total remodel, to the studs, and you have enough floor space to lose, then add a second stud wall to bring the cabinets forward, while a standard depth fridge is set back to the original wall. Or, you can simply have a deeper countertop.

If you happen to have all your lights on the same circuit you can always buy so called smart light bulbs which can be controlled individually and often also grouped into sets. So you could have one group for the island and one for the recessed/pot lights. Only annoying thing is you’d have to use your phone to control the lights this way. You could still use the light switch but then all the lights would turn on as per usual. Smart bulbs can also be dimmed and are a good option to installing a dimmer.

Do notttt everrrr get a counter depth fridge they are horrible. Unless you’re an elderly bird lady that only uses it to store olives and lunch meat

We just bought a house, and i can't wait to build out my cabinets to the celing and a refrigerator that fits. To make it all even worse, the cabinet depth doesn't even match on either sode of it !! They also removed venting and put in plug-in lights 😢 its a good-sized kitchen. It just needs to be done correctly! I can't wait to start demolishing . It was designed by someone who doesn't cook at all, lol. Also, it has weird plastic walls. Ugh. Ok, done ranting 😅

What if your ceiling are 10 ft tall? Should you still bring cabinets all the way to the ceiling? That seems extreme. Are there any other options?

counter depth refrigerator simply does not work for most families unless you have another refrigerator somewhere else.

Do some 100 square foot kitchens like most people have. You’ll be much more believable.

Literally none of those are mistakes. To each their own.

You can add a soffit above the cabinets

I personally love having space above cabinets. I feel that having that space lets me decorate for specific occasions without changing my kitchen's functionality
