The problem is the styles that I like don’t match with my lifestyle, that’s quite demotivating :(

I just wanna find clothes where I'm confident and happy instead of saying, "This is the least insufferable thing I can go out in."

My spring/summer and fall/winter style are entirely different vibes and I'm okay with that. Why shouldn't I get to dress more feminine one season and live in my combat boots in the winter? It's fashion and style, there are no rules except the ones you make for yourself

The “imitating” style is so real esp now with social media! I’ve realized I like parts of other’s outfit/style but the rest is for me to make unique. Knowing your style takes trial and error sometimes.

Definitely my biggest mistake is not buying complete outfits. I buy too many single pieces thinking I can mix and match. I can mix and match but it’s never as good as buying a complete outfit.

Wow ive never thought of “style” this way, as a teenager it’s difficult, cause there’s always kind of this pressure to know if your matching a certain aesthetic and I always find myself having a bunch of clothes that work together yet together they don’t follow any specific style, and this video has taught me that it’s completely normal

I was just at Target with a gift card and had no idea where to go. Then I realized my love for simple things. No pattern or words unless it’s simple. I needed more outfit builder items rather than stand alone items.. so I went basic and got a few cute t-shirts that I can wear daily, and some jewelry that I just loved.

I used to ask people for clothes for Christmas and stuff. Because when you’re finding your style you can never have too many clothes, right? Nope. Now I have a bunch of clothes I didn’t pick for myself just laying around in my wardrobe, and a crushing guilt every time I go to donate them or throw them away. Yay!

My issue is that my personal style does not align with the hot and humid climate that I live in. Sweating constantly is a huge obstacle. I also think I avoid certain favorite tops because my strapless bra is uncomfortable...

Another tip is to stop settling if your heart is set on something. As women we buy things because we need to fill a void. Not because we love the item.

i like what you said about copying someone's style and being inspired by someone's style. I have done that. I go through all kinds of stages. Right now it is the French style which is just staple basic pieces with a little pop of something. Then I love pieces that stand out. So I my wardrobe wars with itself but I do have most of the pieces in my wardrobe to do these two styles. The only thing is, my lifestyle has changed and I don't get to wear my beautiful pieces much. In this time of covid, we are home a lot and things are dressed down a lot. What's a girl to do?

This!!! I’ve been so confused when people say “skinny jeans are out” or “that’s not your style”. Like some days I want to dress like a upper east side grandma and some days I want to dress like Hailey Williams.. it all depends on my mood. I also don’t understand why people limit theirselves to mainstream so much when style can be so fun.

This video spoke to my soul!! I realized I have more tops then I could wear in a month, yet alone before I do laundry. I have “a closet full of cute pieces” there’s tops that I love but don’t ever wear and the reality is there are 20 other tops that I love and will grab before that top. This for me was a slap in the face with the fact that I simply have too much clothes and need to get better at rotating pieces. I bring new pieces in and my old favorites get moved down the list only to never make it back into the pre-laundry rotation. Just because a top is cute and I can make a insta worthy outfit with it does not mean it fits my personal style or life. Love this video and will be keeping theses ideas in mind as I do holiday shopping 💕

100% agree with all of these tips, especially the ones about not feeling like you have to fit into a particular style category, and the difference between admiring/being inspired by someone's style vs. imitating them directly. These are definitely both things that I've been guilty of (especially when I was younger), and they ended up resulting in a lot of frustration and acquiring pieces that didn't really work for me.

Lol the rocker chic box is my box 📦 but totally agree with you - wear what you want and let it be fluid!

THANK YOU for saying this. I love black leather and spikes, I also love linen dress with converse, chunky long sweaters with tights and boots, as long as it’s simple and effortless, I’ll wear it again. Copying others usually costs me too much money and I end up donating it in a couple days 😒😒

Point #1 took me aaaages to unlearn. I definitely got stuck in that mindset for a while (thanks in part to all those 2000s magazine style quizzes!). I definitely get that doing that makes it EASIER to mix and match things and also helps prevent people from getting sucked into trends and winding up with a wardrobe that makes no sense...*but* if you know yourself and you know your style, you don't have to.

Thank you so much! I have a mall trip coming up as a Christmas present, and I’m supposed to be finding my style in this trip. My mom wants me to have at least a little bit of an idea of what I want but the more I look up, the more substyles, and peoples own ideas of what those styles are. It’s been making me question if I even like what I’m looking for. I think I’ve got an over all idea now that I think I want an earthy grunge look but I didn’t like everything I saw so I couldn’t tell if I chose wrong. Thanks again, I felt instant relief upon hearing your words.
