In case of a medical emergency, you have to pick a specific person and ask them to call for the ambulance or else people won't take initiative. Allocating roles can minimize inaction. Good video!

So this is the name of the phenomenom when the teacher asks something simple and nobody answers, even tho most of us know the answer.

Excellent video! I had a lot of people be bystanders in my life, and I just assumed they wasn't the friends I thought they was or too scared to be involved. And cared about what others thought of them. In my school years I noticed that people stood there and did nothing while people did things to me (or participated in the gossip while I wasn't around, which meant they enjoyed it.) Nowadays I barely rely on others to help me and I take manners into my own hands.

Ego, perception of others, afraid of being judged has a factor in this. Multiply this by the number of witnesses.

So the one who burdens the most responsibility gains the most respect?, now this is intriguing

I dispise people who use their phones to record crimes or people suffering instead of calling for help

When I was in fifth grade I was choking on a piece of ham in the middle of a busy hallway. I was gagging and coughing on my knees as every student and literally a few members of staff walked right past me, this wasnt a short incident I was struggling for a decent amount of time as dozens of people walked past me. Nobody helped me, I ended up having to pull it out of my throat with my hand, and even after no one came to see if I was okay. I always think that I very well could've passed out on the floor blue faced and died, and it wouldve been everyones fault that I was dead, just because I was a loser in school no one wanted to help me. I think about that sometimes, on top other awful events that signaled me out in school, and it really makes me see the world in a bad light, it makes me lose a lot of hope. How could the world have treated a child with that kind of neglect.

I've been a bystander in a couple of cases and I deeply regret. On the other side, I've been a non-bystander in other cases tho, but still. Being a bystander is something that every person should feel deeply ashamed of

There's something missing here about the compulsion to not act when in a crowd. People don't want to break ranks because they assume if nobody else is acting, they must know something you don't, and so breaking ranks risks embarrassment.

My worst fear is always witnessing an accident where i could try to help, but it requires more medical knowledge than i have and i end up fucking over the persons life while there couldve been someone more qualified for the job

"If people see and hear, but do not take action, then they have not really seen. They have not really heard. It has not passed beyond the intellect to reach deeper within them. They are not really responding, and so they are not really being responsible.

A quote from the very important free online book by Marshall Vian Summers, entitled *The Great Waves of Change* - Chapter 4: The Freedom to Move with Knowledge

Hello world wide web since i'am learning english as a second language. I decide to write my idea about social groups. We live to protect our Family and as citizens promote true citzenship. You solved one good perspective about social psychology. But it promoved yet more questions about norms and human behavior.
Thanks for this incredible creation.

Another point is that in a lot of cases you'd be instructed to just call someone and not take any action yourself because you might make the situation worse. If I try to help someone dying and I end up making it worse, it's on me. If I don't take action then I carry no blame. Also lawsuits regarding various things, these days it seems like it's just the safer bet to stay away -JUST IN CASE-.

I'm proud of the fact that my natural instinct when I see someone in trouble is to run to help, not turn away. But that may be because I've needed help in the past and not received it. I don't want to do that to. someone else.

I was never a bystander especially in highschool, fought for others or spoke up and even told cause a lot of trouble for me but I done regret it. Maybe the way I approached it. I truly don't believe people that by stand have a good heart. Could be wrong but even if you're scared you'll eventually try to help the individual.

Summary
what is bystander effect: when people are less like to provide help in the presence of a crowd because responsible is diffused among the crowd and motivation to act is less.

Thank you so much for this video. Just helped me find the best way to conclude my speech on Kitty Genovese syndrome.
