Once you use a toilet with a heated seat that washes and dries your tushy automatically, you can never go back. In Japan, about 80% of Japanese homes have electronic toilets, and it’s easy to see why.

Lifehacker staff writer Nick Douglas ventured to Tokyo to learn what it took for Japan to accept high-tech toilets into their homes—and what it’ll take for Americans to do the same.

First crap back in the UK after visiting Japan I felt like a caveman! We literally used the toilet at every opportunity over there. The holiday was awesome but the toilets were definitely our fondest memories 😁

It is hard to describe the feeling you get when you seat down on this toilet. You will be surprised every time.
When in Japan, I sat down even when I had to just pee just because of the warmth and feel good.

Just don‘t tell everyone else how great it is. I heard there was a kid two years ago writing about this in the school newspaper.

I find the most amazing tech about these Washlets is the deodorizer. The filter actually dampens the foul odors and it dissipates in seconds. The newer models don't begin extraction until after you get up, but you can manually hit the deodorize button while seated and it eliminates all the nasty gases and odors in a snap. This is a must for a house with multiple tenants.

I'm always envious of these. It seems like such a stupid thing that they aren't everywhere in the western world.

I can confirm that these Toto toilets are life-changing. They are simply amazing. My main goal in life right now is to be able to install one of the high-end Toto toilet in my home. They’re too pricey for me now, but I’m hoping to be able to afford one at some point. Maybe if they catch on in the U.S. the prices will come down.

I'm in Japan in a hotel with these kinds of toilets... I have ascended beyond our barbaric excuse of a...bathroom in my home country (the US). I laugh at Donald Trump bragging about a golden toilet, that isn't luxury! Having a Japanese toilet is vastly more luxurious!

The idea of having bidet is pretty common in my country in SEA region, at least in public toilet inside a mall or shopping center, since we are using water and toilet paper to clean it up. Its not high tech like in Japan but it actually pretty comfortable.
For a cheaper one we used handheld bidet. very common for some household here.

Something so simple yet so amazing, add value to something few people would pay attention like a toilet and see how mesmerized they will be by simply enhancing human convenience through technology like that, convert a everyday physical necessity into a comfortable and pleasant experience.

Every time I went to Japan, I was so tempted to take pictures and videos of the Japanese public toilets... thanks for the video, our kids need to study Japan from year 6

I'm an Indian. I have a bidet and a handshower both for rear and front respectively. It's not hi-tech like seat heating etc . I'll never understand how just wiping could make it clean. It surely works for a large populace but water is a must in India.
