The MSI Tomahawk motherbaords, both AMD and Intel have proven to a feature rich mobo, vg vrm's and vg value compared to what its competitors offer at the sam eprice point! MSI (controversies aside) has one of the better, imo, Bios's with more tweaking options. With overclocking on higher end cpu's becoming much less rewarding then even 5+ years ago, these non-high end chipsets still give amazing gaming and productivity performance!

It’s such a shame that MSI ruined the look of its Tomahawk line of boards with those ugly looking neon stripes… these used to be arguably their best looking line thanks to being neutral without any accent colors. I’ll buy one again when they return to that design philosophy!

Looks and sounds like the ultra product was pushed out the door to make room for the next version of that chip that will be on the shelves in under a year.

The new chip isnt the problem. It's the new chips price. It needed to be half as expensive as they priced it at.

You teased a possible difference between cinebench scores dependent upon BIOS update, but didn't actually provide a determination as to outcome. [sadface]

did you forget the cinebench scores or is that for a future video?

I agree that the Intel Core Ultras shreds in everything else, specially code and compiling - which is how I use it.

I'm more interested in your test bench. Who makes it?

B650, B660, B670, B850, B860, X760, X870, I really wish the chipset names were better differentiated.

CUDIMM with gear 4 does not translate to any performance, game or application. Only to ddr5 manufacturer revenue. Waste of money for desktop at this point, mb will work better for server applications in the future.

Has the British slang "Faff" and/or "Faffing" made it over the pond? 😂 Didn't expect to hear it here.

The pcie and M.2 releases are nice but needing all that software just to get games behaving is unfortunate.

I always flip flop betweeen ASRock and MSI these days.
Definitely going for an Intel build later this year. They are decent CPUs and I really want to show Intel some gratitude that they left the way of madness and went the way of efficiency. They got a big shitstorm for it and I am sad about that. I don't want a 1 kilowatt CPU in my PC a couple years down the line.

i still use sata ssds because my pc doesn't have enough pcie lanes

Switched to Intel back when 5950x came out and glad about it. Not going back unless AMD screws something up, and/or Intel discontinues it's predatory practice of changing sockets like socks. I usually spec my PCs to last so that when it's time to upgrade, I've skipped a generation at least, so it's not really a big concern for me, but it's a matter of principle.
Re MSI, their top offerings look attractive but I've heard a lot of user complaints about their bios updates lagging behind the average for other vendors, quirky behavior like dropping SSDs from time to time, and similar.
So it's AsRock for me for now
