"I think it's a matter of fundamental fairness, actually, and justice. If as human beings we believe that other people have the same rights to opportunity and their futures that we do, then I think American women will and do and should care about women overseas because we can see ourselves there, we can imagine ourselves being poor and young and not having access to health care, much less abortion care, not having access to contraception, not having access to information. We can imagine ourselves there, and if we can imagine ourselves there then we are there, and so we do have an obligation to be caring and responsible citizens of the world regardless of where we live."
