Holy crap brother about a year ago went through a crank no start. Test everything and everybody was home all 5. In that time I changed a crank and cam sensor. Both GM parts did not fix. Long story short it was the computer. Changed it out reflashed it with HP Tuners and well it started on second try and again down the rabbit hole. I didn’t think to check the cam sensor sense it was brand new GM. Saw this you made such good explanations so I put the old sensor in for shits and giggles
HOT DAMN brother you the man. Been dealing with this embarrassing double start for a year but no more.
Thank you.

I put a new crank sensor and a new cam sensor in my truck 2006 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0
I now have this problem. I seen videos where they have problems with the crank sensor. I bought a good quality sensor anyway this is my problem. I’m gonna go buy another one. I think I’ll try a GM cam sensor my truck same exact thing. Thank you for all the troubleshooting procedures, this was awesome. You are the man.

This is the best tecnition video I've ever seen. I just bought an 03. Very clean truck. The guy has put every fuel part on the truck you can think of. All new coils, wires, ect... He said he don't know what it can be. I think i know now lol. It has 200 k Miles on it. I'll bet it's that sencor. The truck runs flawless. But it will only start on second try. But after it warms up it will start every time. Same exact symptoms
Thank you for sharing you knolage. You just helped hundreds of vortec guys if not thousand. Thank you

This was the best in-depth diagnosis I've seen yet. This was extremely helpful for me. This same problem occurred after I repaired the connector and installed an after market cam sensor. Big mistake. Do not use aftermarket china parts. The aftermarket part was the only one available at the time that I needed one.

Great diagnosis and good catch on that cam signal. I don't think most people would have got this one right.

Thank you so much for the in depth explanation. Been driving me up the wall. New sensor was junk from walker.... My own fault for not paying the extra to buy AC Delco OEM.

Helped me diagnose and fix this exact issue with a new engine I dropped in my Silverado after rebuilding it. The exact same symptoms obviously I first tested fuel pressure because that’s what made sense like you eluded at the beginning. No dice. Knew I had compression and spark. My truck in particular had another symptom which was a backfire during first crank. Tested the camshaft position sensor and sure enough the aftermarket new one wasn’t working properly

2 years I have chased this issue--When I rebuilt my 2000 6.0 Sierra I decided to replace all the sensors.Problem is STANDARD ignition sensors, They suck.Installed a genuine GM 19420911 cam sensor and all is well--Also beware of aftermarket ignition switch harness 26098764. Randomly I could turn on the ignition and see zero gauge movement, With column covers removed I pushed upward on the white plug below key switch and shazam the gauges energize. No more aftermarket sensors for me--Thanks for this video

Great explanation! I appreciate how you labeled each step so we could see all the correlations among the different signals. I also appreciate how you explained your thought process and decision making for each step of this diagnosis. As a longtime educator I can appreciate your gifted teaching skills in presenting high value learning concepts in a succinct yet easily understandable format. A perfect example of a quality classroom presentation. Well done!

I tried replacing my failed oem cam sensor with a cheap replacement and it didn’t fix the intermittent starting issue. I then threw in an acdelco oem sensor and it fixed it. Great video with great info!

Great video. I like your approach on figuring this out. Maybe you could share with ur audience where to find crank-cam waveforms and how challenging it could become to obtain them at times. Again great video!
