In a telephonic conversation with Business Today Executive Director Rahul Kanwal, Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, defended her tenure and expressed her disappointment. "She has not done anything wrong; she provided the best government in the country," Joy told India Today TV, adding that she will now spend time with her grandchildren. "She is disappointed and disheartened," he said. "She fought militancy with iron hands, but she is done. She is 77 years old." Regarding rumours of Hasina planning to leave for London, Joy stated, "She has not decided on that yet. Reports about London are not true, and she has not asked for any asylum." Joy explained that his mother left Bangladesh to avoid bloodshed on the streets. He claimed she decided to resign on August 3, but protesters did not want a peaceful transition of power. Joy also suspected Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of provoking students and aggravating the situation, warning that Bangladesh could descend into chaos similar to Pakistan, with Hindus and Christians potentially being targeted. On Monday, hours after the unrest escalated, Joy confirmed that his mother would not make a political comeback and had left the country for her safety.
